The writing is atrociously cringy...

Chūnibyō all the way, no self-awareness, taking itself seriously 100% of the time, no humor, always played straight.

Super cliché.

But still it's fun to read.

I haven't read a novel that uses this "joke" premise, this cliché, this over-used setting, and gives itself this level of self-importance, while being so cringy...

And amongst the cringyness, you can see why the author wanted to write it this way.

The MC haves a train of thought that talks always about determination, about being able to overcome things, about having to be better, to train, to become one that can walk next to the Hero.

As he's fighting, he's telling himself he HAVES to overcome this, to grow, to adapt, to understand the battle better, to predict better, to perform better, he's thinking all the time, how to overcome this, how to turn his flaws into a weapon, how to turn the tables on his opponents.

He's not self-belittling, it's not that he "believes" he's weak, it's that he IS weak, and if he ever falters on this thinking, he will be killed, he can't spare the thought of being complacent, ever, it's the thoughts of a human being fighting a god-like monster.

He's painfully aware that he's NOT the hero, he does NOT have abilities that he can master immediately just by trying once or twice, he haves NO protection from the heavens.

He basically throws himself into battle to learn by battling, hell, he's missing an arm in the cover because he almost always loses an arm when he fights... although healing magic gives it back so it's kind of wishy washy.

Plot armor is STRONG with this one.

Things basically ignore logic sometimes to keep WORKING with the premise, even in forcefully.

Instead of being "shown" we are "told" a lot of things.

The choreography of the fights is all wonky, because the author basically doesn't know how fencing works... but still you can chalk it up to the MC just being kind of special in that regard, it's his "skill" his "personal sword technique" since it's the only way he could ever fight against opponents that have super-human capabilities.

He fights by countering the power thrown at him and either redirecting it against his enemies or nullifying it.

It's a very clever premise... even if sometimes it doesn't make sense at all, if he "misses" he loses an arm, but hey, again, plot armor, think of it like "Sekiro" and you'll probably enjoy it a bit more.

Anyway, in the end, even with all the cringe fest, cliché, over-used setting... it's fun, and it's quite distinct from others because it takes itself seriously all the time, so the tone is like an epic, that falls flat, which in it's own kind of makes it more fun, at least for me that haves read this story a million times over already hahaha.

Give it a go, don't pay too much attention to the choreography, try to read between the lines of the dialog, you'll enjoy it, it's got heart even if sometimes the author had to force some things for his "epic" to work the way he wanted it to work.

Good story. Needs editing. I shouldn’t try to guess what author wants to say . If I’m expected to pay the writing should be up to standard.
