How To Live As A Writer In A Fantasy World Chapter 283 Discussion

I don't really write reviews at all on stories that I am reading, since everything is absolutely subjective when it comes to them and maybe we can add objective facts to said novel. Hell even some 5 star reviews can have some complains.

  • This is overall a rant out of frustration. Read at your own risk with spoilers

Anyway- the story is pretty unusual in how it makes it's isekai story driven world (not character driven since they are pretty shallow-more on that later, still a bland MC) since it's all about literature and culture with superficial action to keep it "entertaining" for the 5 chapter it lasts then is forgotten until a later date for it's completion. This approach has obvious problems from how it tries to portray early European civilization as a backwater group of people with bad literature or culture that is somehow saved by a pretty generic fantasy book from our perspective, and very immature and that the feudal, monarchy systems have a lot of bad flaws, all taken from the MC's inner voice, while not realizing that to this said
"bad structures " they are by far the ones to have lasted the longest and works better given the technology level.

It's next problem stems from the fact that the author is very much trying to explain philosophy with very very generic names and examples that everyone can think of, from 2 greek philosophers, WW2 politicians especially the angry mustache man, and sometimes Lincoln cause why not?. All of this miss matched ideologies that are put as references have something in common-- the writer is pretty superficial about their understanding, in a story all about culture, ideologies and worldview

which hurts for anyone that is paying attention when Issac (the MC) mentions same said politicians or philosophers for the 20th time.

Next problem---- how unbelievable easy it was for everyone to stop hating the demons or other races just because his book coincidentally says "demon =friend, not stab target" when said demons are very much walking explosives since stress and other negative emotions of all kind can make them go berserk or just off themselves in a bad way and collectively as a species brought death and destruction to the continent when they were first made. Something that no real country or civilization will ever forget or forgive not unless 100000 pass by, even if they do not participate in any future wars. The scars were made.

Neither does it helps that the story eventually makes them in a way a mary sue race where they are sooooooo good at everything and pitiful that they deserve everything and all forgiveness and good stuff,

thus showing bad favoritism that affects the story character wise.

The elves get little love even after 300 chapters, something I am very much disappointed in. It hurts sometimes.

The next thing-- the advancements in technology that is often seen in this kind of stories is a bit better than usual since it had a pretty smart approach. Instead of it simply being "MC shows shiny new thing-> dwarf makes in 1 day time-> profit" it's actually realistic since it shows that innovation is a group thing not a solo endeavor (even geniuses need to look around themselves to see the bigger world to advance) with ideas or concepts already existing under a different form or premise. Pretty good and smart.

Now to the biggest flaw-- characters, the lifeline of a story and world.

Most of them are flat, generic,

caricature or made extremely sensitive for extra force impact,

with the so called "yandere girl " being extremely weak mentally from some bad parents,

it wouldn't be a problem if she was a commoner or normal girl BUT she is a high ranking nobel, someone that is born to be strong mentally and educated to not take anything bad to heart, atlas Cherry the very unstable girl is a just 1 trick pony that has 0 character besides her traits and falls in "love" with the MC in such a easy way even a goldfish will be impressed.

The beast girl whose name I forgot is pretty much just as shallow and has even to this point not a lot of character depth and falls in love with the MC instantly because "so it says in our rules"..... yeah it sure is satisfying to just resolve an issue with 2 brain cells and get a girl as a reward Ubisoft RPG style. Even if by chapter 700+ she ever gets a character arc, the story already said enough that adding more will be very forced and unsatisfying. You can't really make gold from tin foil.

3rd girl, Adeli, the maid, the half breed princess,

    the bodyguard,

the one that deserves the actual pity and more time than the pity demons. She is generic sad girl gets emotional support from MC and falls quickly. Not bad, nor great, she is pretty much ok during moments and would have been better if the author actually cared about his decent characters.

    The obligatory princess character,

normal, bland, shallow that is more just princess traits given form and a name, could have been better if not sidelined or almost forgotten in some instances. Might get better as time moves on since unlike some characters the author just laid the foundation and not the whole building so can be built on.

Arwen the elf queen. Poor girl is pretty much used more often as a punchline on "oh elves are this way but she does not realize and demons are

better " which can get pretty old. Like above she can improve a lot but I really doubt it since the author is hellbent on making her seen inferior in everything compared to the demon girl from maturity to intelligence,

    magic and figure.

Cecily- the cancer, the favoritism personified,

the one who gets more attention than deserved. Ohhh boy where do I begin?

She is an extremely shallow character that has very bad reasons to even like the MC (the only reason she even likes that sack of potatoes is due to his book) and even after so called "character growth " it's basically the same reasoning and mentality but with the added "also like you as an individual " trying to fool the careless reader. While also being forcefully inserted in all the big events of the story when it makes sense for her NOT TO BE or get this many privileges compared to other female characters and somehow making it about her at the end of it all which is just bad. Also do not get me started on how she is pretty much trying to steal from

other heroines with the justification that she is a pitiful demon and she needs it more (like marriage and children and who will be more in the MCs life).

All of her character can be boiled down to a shallow piece of meat that the author is putting a lot of forceful importance on and some readers give her a pass because she is "hot and has big b**bs" and disgusting black hair (yes I hate black hair, yes I am aware I sound weird and hateful) even though she is overall a bad character who steals.

Finally we have Marie, oh Marie, the poster girl who actually has a pretty normal, close to generic personality but is also energetic and cute. She is so good if the story only had her as a true heroine it might have been better but no she gets sidelined to the background while the pity demon steals moments that would have worked for her instead, thus leaving her in the dark until the arc ends and she is mad. We can literally feel her frustration with this second hand harem of the MCs and wish she could have been more present overall. Hell even her reasoning for liking the MC is the most normal. She and the MC meet by chance and end up friends only for months later after constant interactions to end up together and happy. this is best written one in a shallow sea (the bar is that low)

Overall a story that it overstays it welcome when it could have ended at chapter 300 and not 700+ with artificial conflicts,

shallow character and bad usage of said characters............. if you just like it this way just forget this review,

enjoy it and have a great time

I have given up looking for a resolution.  The plot is basic and predictable and the heroine is lacklustre.  The villain(s) are also highly typical and are bereft of any redeeming qualities.  Why - other than financial gain - must these things drag on ad nauseum?  This is unoriginal tripe.
