Hongyu (the servant) had an affair with one of ML's guards (that's the evil rumor).

It seems MC discovered ther big-sister-in-law's secret, but due to MTL I am confused on whether that is there's an illigitimate child in big brother's room or concubines.

So MC later visits her Yuanxi cousin and the disgusting Prince almost rapes her (or rapes her? MTL is confusing) and provokes her to miscarriage.

That is how awful this male character is! Well... after a while, it seems he was drugged through the incense burner.
Also, big-sister-in-law seems to be on it.

About her, Sun Luoning, it seems her secret is that the child in her courtyard is hers but not his husband's!

The father would be an illegitimate cousin from Xiao Zhonghua and his shu big brother.

The poor man, Helan, helped MC before and he is the illegitimate child of the last Emperor (not clear which of the prevoous Emperors is).

The awful sovereign stole someone else's wife, he abducted her into the palace, raped her and replaced her in her husband's home for a stranger.

Also, MC & ML have more heart to heart conversation after she recovers from miscarriage. She blames herself, thinking that is retribuition for her revenge, and tells ML all the bad things she's done to revenge. He still loves her & let's her know that no matter what, he still won't have concubines, even if he has to say he's infertile.

That is, perhaps what settles this novel a part. MC's character developement isn't lineal, and she suffers from other's calculations, not being that omnipotent. 

About her dad:

He is a mixture of shitty dads but not too much overdone.

The man is another leecher. Mediocre official.

His mother is not unreasonable, but that old madam can only see the grandson and whatever benefits her status.

MC knows how to play them well.

The father, Ouyang Zhi, doesn't love anyone but himself. Originally he likes Ouyang Ke better, because the MC is spineless, and despite saying he loves her mother, he quickly remarries (or establishes Lin stepmom as main wife). Also he takes whatever beauty concubine that comes his way.

He lacks on morals, and he is no help with all the schemmes the MC faces, the most he does is confine the step-mom. If it wasn't for the old madam's determination, not even that would happen.

He is scum. One of the newly  concubines, a niece of the old madam, Li Yunniang, miscarriages thanks to stepmom's & another concubine's cat. As soon as she looses the potential "son" he ababdones her.

The only reason why Li Yunniang keeps the hold on managing the house, is because the stepmom previously screwed big time & the old madam backs Li Yunniang.

He also goes to a brothel during national mourning (Empress Dowager dies), and gets a prostitute pregnant but doesn't even recognize the child.

The Chen & their people find out and use that to threaten him into getting Ouyang Nuan married into Chen Gongzi (in fact is Wu something the one that uses the threat). That is when MC asks the ML for help & he gets the Great Princess to schemme & use some sort of reverse psychology to the Emperor so he ends up decreeing a marriage for Chen Gongzi with that Ke Roung beauty.

They make believe the Emperor that Chen Gongzi is infatuated with Ke Roung. So that diverts his attention from MC's marriage.

When MC's brother learns about the reason why his sister may end up married to Chen Gongzi, he decides he's finally done with him. He actually wants to take the MC and leave, but MC makes him reflect on it.

Ouyang Jue is smart and has always known the stepmom is evil & their dad is trash.

He actually gets killed soon on the first lifetime, but MC resurrects on the same exact day he drowns, so she rushes to save him. That also makes the MC's image radically improve at the eyes of the old madam. 

So her maternal cousin married the emperor's eldest grandson. Her paternal grandmother asked her to make a wedding dress for herself since she and her cousin were close to each other aka be the 2nd wife/concubine of her cousin's husband. This happened because her cousin liked to invite her to talk, this was her grandmother's reasoning. So she needed to use this chance to make it happened. Yes, she didnt want. Yes, she disgusted with her grandmother's greeds. But so what? She still did it. She still went to her cousin place.
Why? oh Why?   
A smart girl, that could manipulate her grandmother, thwarted all her stepmother's & her enemies schemes and threw it on them instead, could not find a decent reason to reject it and not to go.
And now that I know the cousin's husband got so deluded and crazy over her. Just wanna screamed, who'd or what woman would come to visit a newly wed even if one of them is her relative??
Wasn't this how her mother died?

Sometimes it's hard not to try to not use your brain to read this type of novel lol 

More on how shitty scumbag the Crown Prince's son is (and a little of ML's role):

There are those 2 political factions. One led by the Crown Prince, the other by Qin Wang (Tianyu's father).

At a certain point, Qin Wang orchestrates a rebellion, but everything is designed to uproot the other party and paint them as the rebels.

First they isolate the other princes, the ML is out doing some fake work & they try to assassinate the Crown Prince & kill the ML when he is trying to get back (because he suspects that the lack of newd from the capital means something's up).

He ends up injured sneaking into MC's courtyard when she was about to bath. That is the moment he confesses his mother's crimes. MC helps him anyway, regardless everything is a plot to destroy her reputation:

That annoying Lin Wenyuan uncle is in charge of raiding her manor & after some hard work she prevents her cortyard fr being searched (Tianyi also helps).

After MC & her pregnant cousin have escaped with help from MC's & Xiao Yan's man (another prince), they end up in a town with a He family. They just happen to rescue an old woman that's coincidentally related to their grandmother (the Marquees old madam), she brings them to her Manor to hide.

However, weird stuff is going on there. MC finds out that there is a young lady with a disfigured face & they want to use MC to lure a potential marriage candidate, making him believe that Ouyang Nuan is that lady.

That's when MC meets the ML again & sees he is disguising as that potential husband. But it takes her some time to connect all the dots. She only knows about the lady's schemme &, in another side plot, one of the manor's young master is pursuing her.

MC endures just for pregnant Lin Yuanxi's sake, meanwhile, Tianyi appears and displays his abusive behavior. It's when he slaps her hard, after she refuses to leave that manor, and he ends up poisoning that young He Gongzi.

His death comes while they are eating and causes such chaos, that the pregnant cousin gets knocked & her labor accidentaly starts way earlier than it's supposed to.

She almost loses her life. That disfigured lady's brother is a doctor and he manages to safe her & the child. However afterwards, MC gets lured into that lady's courtyard & the crazy woman tries to kill her.

The thing is she knows her schemme has been dismanteled, but since her brother told her that it was possible to transplant's someone else's face, she wants to kill Ouyang Nuan to get hers. She thinks that the ML is in love with her beauty.

ML gets on time to save her and again, his speech (and his feelings) clearly show that he is in love with MC because of her personality. However his own schemme also gets exposed and Ouyang Nuan gets super mad when she connects the dots & realizes they've all been played by Yan Prince (Lin Yuanxin's husband), that he used everyone from her Marquees' family, even his other wives as pawns, he let Qin Wang rebel & kill people just so he can catch him red handed later and win the throne with war.

They need that He's manor rice to feed the ML's & other's armies.

ML reflects on how he was also mad when he found out he was being used by the Crown Prince's son... but it doesn't seem the MC will forgive him for liying to her.


By the way, MC is terrified, like any other abused woman would be, by Tianyi. Especially after he kills that He Yusheng Gongzi. She does has feelings for him, but that's just how those psycho bastards act: they win you over but at the same time they oppress you & try to erase anyone that's around you. It is hard for MC to overcome her mixed feelings of fear and love out of displayed affection/fear she has for Tianyi, despite she isn't dumb and knows he is no good for her. 

And another side post to confirm that at that point (MC realizing they've all been played by Prince Yan) Xiao Zhonghua (ML) is fully aware & accepts that he's in love with Ouyang Nuan and the last thing he wants is to see her hurt & see that she despises him for any reason (his mother, he contributing to her becoming a pawn, etc.)

Wait! He actually kisses & hughs her after she says that she understands but that she thinks Xiao Yan is despicable for toyinh with people & letting them die.

He just told her that he only cares for her not to suffer and he just wishes that Ouyang Nuan can become his wife.

If that ain't a confession, I don't know what it is.

He arrives just in time to save her from Xiao Yan requesting to his father (the new Emperor) to give him the MC in marriage. He just steals the words from the sociopath's mouth & they quickly get married.

The ML's manor seems to be filled with weird & dangerous relatives.

There's a momo (Jiang momo) that's currently causing trouble when they have just been married for a few days, using a servant (she was from noble lineage) to try to sow discord between them and ruin MC's reputation as a virtous wife.

The girl, Bihe, is the daughter of a criminal. That man was Xiao Zhonghua's father good friend, so he rescued her and wanted to adopt her, but the girl has delusional thoughts with the MC so she requests to be his servant (hoping to climb his bed & status), the father of the ML is a little willfull to promise the girl he will make her ML's concubine or side-wife... but then time passes and he realizes tha Zhonghua doesn't want her or anyone.

As soon as MC enters the door, that Bihe strats behaving unapropiately, even breaks one of MC's favorite jade jewels, and doesn't know her place when adressing her.

MC instantly serves her some status lessons & later Bihe gets scolded by MC's closest momo, causing that old servant to argue with that other Jiang momo.

MC intervenes and then the annoying Jiang momo tries to play her and force her to accept Bihe as ML's concubine. She believes that threatening MC with losing her virtous reputation, she can just plant the girl in ML's bed. But MC gives her another lesson and puts the momo in her place. MC knows that momo is Xiao Yan's (the disgusting prince) person.

She had previously used the argument about her wanting to be the only wife as a reason to refuse him. So he wants to ruin her chances at accomplishing that with the ML.

Several days pass, she becomes distant to the ML & he is puzzled.

In a stormy night, she has  nightmare, recalling her previous life's death at the river & when the ML enters the room (late at night), she rushes to hugh him, disregarding the fact he is drenched by the rain.

After a moment, they have a heart to jeart conversation and ML lets her know that he knows she has or had feelings for Tianyi, but that he only hopes that she can gradually accept his love.

MC also tries to explain and ask about Bihe, but MC doesn't even know who Bihe is from the servants. Then he tells her that he never thought about having any other women, that he's had feelings for her for a while & is determined to promise her she'll forever be his only wife.

Well, I'm about to see what Bihe & Jiang momo have in their sleeves.

One of the other manor servants already tried to talk some sense into Bihe, even advised her to distance her from Jiang momo because she isn't a good person. But Bihe is too greedy & delusional. 

SPOILER! SPOILER!  i want to know, how is she going to handle against this mother and daughter duo? this stepsister  is so poisonous, and the husband, I want someone to tell me if he scheme with the su family and the stepsister to kill MC.... I don´t now, I don´t understand that part. 

The ending is cruel rather than bittersweet. Yes, they reconcile, but both MC & ML suffer to much, plus Ouyang Nuan has been too harmed that even if she decides to accept him again, the ending gives the feeling that ther relationship has been too damaged.

Ouyang Nuan spends too much time kidnapped in Tianyi's palace. She is molested a few times by him. She tries to scape once, but in the end she fails so she hasto wait until ML sends people to rescue her.

She leaves into a smaller city/countryside region to live with her son. She spents 3 years there.

The ML is sick due to poison, he is almost blind nad his hearing is also damaged. He respects her wish of not meeting again. Despite he could be cured if he soaked in a certain hot springs for 3 years, he doesn't because that's the place Ouyang Nuan chose to live.

That Princess stays by his side as a friend until she is about to marry to become her country's empress.

ML meets MC again 3 years after in the streets, coincidentally their son is the one that bumps into ML.

After a few days of him staying close, she decides to forgive him.

Honestly, I didn't like the part of him betraying her trust and it was too much to put the MC under so much harrassment. I'd rather saw her walking away and have a sad but clean ending, with her recovering after pregnancy.

After a few chapters I also understood better the labour part: She was indeed stabbed with a poisoned needle by one of the seevants attending (Jiang something) only that I forgot if she was her adoptive's mother's people or someone else's.

In the end, the only likeable character that actyally triomphs is her cousin Lin Yuanxin, whom does a 180° turn from naïve to cunning, plots to kill Xiao Yan & cleans the house of potential enemies, becomes the Queen Dowager and gets her son in the throne. 

I dont like both ML and the Xiao TianYe's(=the psycho) characterization. For me, the psycho way is not cute and totally not healthy. I never like such character and relationship.
It's not often to see author to give their ML a retribution period of not days, weeks but years. Usually in most of the romance novel the ciiche after doing that last plan and eventho it hurts MC but needs to be done in order to catch/fool the bad guy or the classic reason 'I do it to protect you etc,', they all will be forgiven and forgotten.

I'm a bit confused with MC character development tho. Based on her past life, I got the impression that she was not that brainy. But the present day, she's very op, and could predict every move her enemies esp the stepmother and half sister. Her schemes over them were calculated smartly. But when it came to others, she's not that attentive. For example, welcoming her grandmother's niece as her father's concubine. Giving a hand for another wolf to enter the chicken shed theory. If she chooses someone with low status such as brothel woman that might not get support from her grandmother, she could control the backyard and her father more. When it happned, I was very much confused. 

The transition seem like it's from mtl. But I'm still hoping for spoilers! *pray* 

Towards the end, the ice block ML melts as he and his son fight against psycho male rival for the MC's attention. Anyway, ML was never cold to the MC and always helped her when she was in a pinch. Sometimes he would help directly (like the time when he asked the emperor for her hand in marriage) and other times he would help from behind the scenes (like the time when he saved her from marrying into a family that was blackmailing her father). The main difference that the MC initially sees between him and the PMR (Psycho Male Rival) is that he wouldn't hurt others while trying to help her while PMR would not even notice that others are being hurt or would consider that a bonus. 

He actually "falls in love" with the MC (she's beautiful with an aura of dignity and is from a powerful background that would help his ambitions to social climb as an official from being a merchant) but ends up being forced to marry the step sis. He regrets losing her till the end.
