But the ghost is very yandereish. It even tries to kill that Cheng-something who is around MC. In the end, MC is forced to use his buff of calling one boss to control it for 30 seconds (and obviously there is no boss stronger than the one inside him). So he forces him to go back or something and then falls unconscious for almost half-month.
Btw, his main task in the casino is - He is a bodyguard for some rich kid. But in reality he is in unrequited love with the rich kid. But the rich kid hates him coz he is slow and stupid and was given to the rich kid by his relatives as a joke. So the rich kid is always treating him badly. Even the other bodyguards are disdainful/ contemptuous towards him. His task is to make the rich kid fall in love with him and then reject him Lmao.
MC's reaction - ..... Yay! I can improve my acting skills with this!!!!
Holy crap I’m reading through this story right now and it has some of the funniest moments I’ve read in a while. It’s just such a great parody of the horror game genre: I think the author does a great job balancing the horror and the comedy.
Yes, Gu Wuji mostly roflstomps his way through all of the horror scenarios thanks to his complete lack of fear, his honesty and friendliness, and his ability to unleash a can of asswhooping if it becomes necessary. But he isn’t invincible—he still has very human reactions to events, it’s just that his own perspective is a little... unique.
Then the friends and acquaintances he runs into on these horror adventurers are very much not invincible, so the audience can still feel immense tension and anxiety in regards to the fates of these side characters.
Am I the only hoping that the ML is this super mysterious Ning-dashi? Who maybe put a little of himself in each instance, like in Game Loading. *rubs hands gleefully*
It seems like...he's always been raised by ghosts when he was young? MC is unclear about whether these are his actual parents who've died, or if they're just ghosts that adopted him, but he loves and treats them like his parents in any case, as the boundary between living people and ghosts has always been vague and indeterminate to him. In fact, the whole building Gu Wuji lived in was haunted, but he's friendly with all the ghosts and they're mostly harmless...at least to him. But MC's been ostracized and bullied since he was a kid since he's always talking to air and acting strangely in other people's eyes.
However, everything came to a head when a group of kids in the village were kidnapped (including MC). In MC's current memories, he just thought it wasn't a big deal and they were rescued in a timely manner, but that wasn't the case at all. In the course of unlocking his memories, MC goes into the past like it's an instance, and discovers that the kidnappers were actually players wanting to make a sacrifice to the evil god to increase their powers. However...they tried to sacrifice MC.
The ghost that we've been catching glimpses of around MC has actually always been living in Gu Wuji's body. There were scenes in his memories where he was drawing with a stick on the ground and waiting for someone to play with him, and it was a black shadowy mist that came out of him and then took the stick to draw things with him. The ghost also protects him from bullies, though MC has to stop it when it tries to go too far and actually murder the other children. In the case of the kidnapping, the ghost basically takes over Gu Wuji's body and destroys all the cultists. Gu Wuji was found later completely unhurt and asleep in the middle of a sacrifice circle...with cultists bodies strewn all around. Also...the ghost got super pissed and wanted to destroy the ghost father and ghost mother that had been taking care of MC because: "They failed their job of protecting you. So they don't need to exist anymore." ;w; Tiny Gu Wuji tries to stop the ghost, but the father is directly obliterated and the mom is reduced to the lowest level of spirit that only has vague instinctual reactions, and Gu Wuji's memories are wiped so he doesn't remember the event at all. In present day, MC wonders if the reason that he's so strong is because this super high level ghost has always been in him (it seems even stronger than the advanced ghosts from the instances, at least on par with the evil god), and whether the reason that it's always been with him is that it's waiting for the day when his body can fully support it and it can possess him. MC is very worried about what would happen then. Actually, something that I've always found interesting is that every other player is terrified of dying in the instances whereas MC is mostly like meh. If I die, I'll just become a ghost. What's the big deal?
It's also revealed when MC becomes an advanced player that the advanced "instance" is actually leading to an endgame where a super boss is going to descend into the real world and threaten the stability of reality itself, and whoever can defeat it will become a god.
MC...is currently not so concerned with this as the more pressing present concern for him is how he can permanently seal the ghost that's in his own body so it doesn't come out again and wantonly murder people. (I'm wondering whether the ghost in his body isn't actually the final boss of the advanced instance??? LOL.) In any case, Gu Wuji has a choice of three scenarios for his first advanced dungeon... [Haunted Villa: After the previous events, you have become a famous and well-known journalist. But there is one thing in your heart that you've never been able put down. When you wake up on this day, you find yourself inexplicably returned to the haunted villa, where the most terrible existence of the villa has already been waiting for you for a long time……】
[Death Casino: After the previous incidents, you came to this very famous casino as a bodyguard of a wealthy man. However after entering, you notice that the people in this casino seem to be wrong. They believe in an unknown god and think that this will allow them to get anything. Everything that happens gives you a strange sense of familiarity. It seems that there is a certain existence that has been calling you, and you can no longer leave this place if you listen to that call.】
[Endless Gallery: After the previous events, you have become famous, but because of some fear, you have not continued to be a journalist. You have engaged in other professions instead, but your fate has already doomed it to be impossible for you to just be an ordinary person. When you wake up, you find yourself trapped in a strange gallery, unable to leave.】
Gu Wuji: "System, can I really not change to another instance?" No matter which of these three ghosts it is, none of them are entities that ordinary people can provoke!!
[Actually, this is because the player has just been promoted to an advanced player, the system has chosen a background that you are already familiar with, so that the difficulty will be reduced. 】
"No, system, I think that you don't need to give me such preferential treatment." What reduced difficulty, this is simply raising the difficulty to the heavens.
[Sorry, this can't be changed. 】
Gu Wuji: "..." This system is deliberately pitting him!
Anyways, MC ends up choosing the second instance, because the first and third instances are related and he's afraid of running into a repeat of the previous time where the two bosses ended up fighting over him lmaoo. And he also gets the brilliant idea (after talking to other advanced players about methods of sealing powerful ghosts) to seal the evil god into his body to "balance" the power of the ghost already in his body... ... ...
Does anyone else feel like this plan is going to explode in his face LOL
Island arc is one of my favourites! And also...one of the less scary ones...which I was very thankful for after cruise ship and the world within the mirror arc which kept me from sleeping for two nights sob
I love the Mc lmao it’s always -Gu Wuji warmly smiled and said, “I just need a tiny favor from everyone. I believe everyone won’t reject, right?” And everyone feels shiver up their spine
