I haven't read the story, so I'm a bit hesitant to judge right away, but from the spoilers I have to agree. I mean...it is ancient times, and men back then even more than today preferred women who wouldn't challenge them and had 'softer / gentler' personalities.
But....since this is fiction, and even more a QT novel where things are even more exaggerated / romanticized, it's really disappointing the ML only likes or at least is attracted to the FL after she 'softens' the original's personality -.-

FL is from a prominent family while ml is poor and also blind. When he was young he begged Fl's family to help his mother as she is sick. Fl immediately takes people and goes to help but they were stopped by ml's stepbrother and his mother dies. After that ml ignores her.
FL is very pampered at home so she is a bit arrogant. A few years later they meet again in college but as ml ignores her, she orders people to bully him. Here second female lead helps him when he is injured and he feels gratitude towards her.
FL obtains a snow lotus which can cure his eyes with difficulty and gives him. They get married. She promises to help him become the emperor. They fight a few battles and wins them. When they arrive at the last city second fl is there. Ml secretly helps her and place her in a shed as he is thankful to her due to past. FL finds out and goes there in rage. Some fight happens and she loses her pregnancy. She becomes withdrawn and gradually keeps ml away. After a few years with sadness she passes away.

Fifth Arc
So this time it's an ancient world where the host marries a sickly king who's had six exwifes. The exwifes were all killed by the ML's brother who is the SML, who is jealous of the ML. The SFL was actually supposed to marry the ML, but the SML did a swaparoo which made the MC the ML's wife and the SFL the SML's wife. So the previous host loved the SML, so she tried to poison the ML, but the MC doesn't do that anymore and he falls more for her. Then they all go to this hunt hosted by the father of the ML and the SML. The MC exchanges for god level archery skills, which she uses to hunt with the ML's marked arrows so the ML can beat the SML. The SFL tries to pick on the MC, but gets pinned to the tree with arrows. The MC while hunting finds the crown prince being assassinated, so she saves him, which makes him fall in love with her (plays an important role later in the arc). The SML is still delusional that the MC is trying to get his attention even after she beats his ass in hunting. The MC chases all of the SML's spies from the ML's palace and the SML thinks this is her way of playing hard to get, so he tries to give her attention. Earlier we find out that the ML's actually the leader of this secret mysterious hall that has the power to grant wishes and he only has one soul and one spirit, which makes him weak. His other two souls and six spirits are in the Evil Monarch's Court acting as the leader. So his two souls and six spirits does a divination and learns the future. The current emperor actually got his throne from the EMC, which should have actually gone to the ML's father. The emperor reveres the EMC, so he holds a worship ceremony there. Everyone travels to a villa at the foot of the mountain the EMC is at. The SML kidnaps the MC and tries to rape her, but the ML uses his other half to disrupt this and destroy him, which makes him go crazy. The ML almost dies since his other half is just a ghost made of souls and spirits. Since the SML has gone crazy, the ML is made to climb up the mountain with the MC to worship himself. The crown prince begins paying attention to the MC. Insert more fluffy chapters here where they banter like an old married couple. Now shit hits the fan. The crown prince uses a sleeper cell he planted with the ML's father to make it seem like he's rebelling, which gets the ML's family arrested. The crown prince then shows his affection for the MC, threatening her family and the ML to get her to be with him. She agrees to divorce the ML if he agrees to let him leave the city safely, which he agrees to do. The MC goes to see the ML in the dungeon and then divorces him, but she can't show any emotion since the crown prince is watching. She also gives him a pill that heals most of his wounds. The next day comes and the MC is on the city walls watching the ML leave the city, but then the crown prince brings out archers and says that since he had "safely left the city", now he would die. The MC uses her reward from the last world to freeze time and space to run to the ML to die together, but it runs out before she could reach him and he is pierced full of arrows. She runs up to him and holds him as he dies in her arms, but she completes her mission right before he dies. She wants to leave since she didn't want to live in a world without him, but the system suddenly tells her to stay since she could still influence the world. She secretly teleports to the EMC to perform a blood sacrifice that would revive the ML. The blood sacrifices occurs and she is teleported back by the system, while it also exchanges for a pill that keeps her alive. She is forced to marry the crown prince and she has the idea of killing him if the ML doesn't come in time to stop it. The ML revives before everyone expected it. The MC threatens to kill herself at the wedding, but the crown prince stares her down and convinces her to stop, so she could kill him before dying. The wedding ceremony occurs and the MC is forced by the crown prince to bow for the ceremony. Right before the final bow, the ML appears and steals the MC away. Everyone kneels in fear except for the crown prince who screams at the ML to give him back his wife. The ML with his ML aura states that she is his wife and then kills the crown prince. The emperor is afraid since he traded one hundred thousand soldiers, which is his entire army for his throne and finding out that the ML is the leader of the EMC, he abdicates. The ML's father doesn't want to become emperor, so he lets the ML become the emperor. Add in a few more closing fluffy chapters.
