As far as I have read and from the spoilers here I have to say: GC is better then ML...
The ml is a sociopath, a psychopath and what he calls love for the Mc is more of an obsession than anything else...
As for GC. From the spoilers here. GC never had the intention of killing the Mc. As far as his relation with white lotus goes. Nobody spoilered anything about it. And it's normal to have more then one woman... It's not as convenient as in her 3rd live where the Mc convinces the ml that it's better to only have one wife.
As for why I like this novel. Here the Mc doesn't just follow the ml. Who is displayed as some kind of handsome godlike being who helps the Mc without her knowing, is 10 to 20 years older and became interested in her while spying from a distance (all those lolicons...)
But takes matters in her own hands and gets further trough her own wits.

Yup, this novel really isn't that bad so far. I haven't gotten to the later drama parts yet, but it's okay.
ML is actually not that bad. He pretty much went insane in MC's 2nd life because of everything he went through and was a rabidly loyal dog to white lotus because of that (she showed him the only kindness he ever received, even if she was a terrible person using him). So 2nd life ML is not really ML's entire character.
ML in MC's 3rd life is what he would have been like if he hadn't gone insane, because MC pulls him back from the crazy. He still has his yandere moments, but he's much calmer. He also seems to have imprinted on MC like a baby chick lol. He and MC are very cute together, they trust each other a lot and sorta tease each other.
MC realizes (very early) that it's not fair to pin everything that 2nd life ML did onto this 3rd life ML, because 3rd life ML didn't do anything to her. In fact, he's ridiculously loyal to her. When they were both super young and weak, he even risked punishment/death by Emperor by running to where Emperor was and pleading for him to save MC (because MC was getting attacked by assassins from this one concubine). He and MC are both super unfavored children, so he was taking a HUGE risk by doing that.

@Lunastella That's why I said the epilogue was an overkill. It's a bit boring to read too since MC in both epilogue was the typical innocent hot blooded girl. I guess we should just ignore the epilogue, except for the first few chapter about MC and ML married life with their children, the rest are boring, even the daughter's romance was the typical rich arrogant ML & innocent kind heroine (except that the daughter was transmigrated).
And about the MC ended up with different girl, I guess the author held a "butterfly effect" concept, every different decision led to different ending.
For JY, MC had previously stated that in her 2nd life, if she didn't meet GC first, perhaps she would fall in love with him instead. And as for the 3rd life, when JY asked MC, whether she would fall in love with him, had he met with her first? She answered that it was not important, she had chosen ML for this life, and she didn't know what would be in the next life.
Also you could say that the MC that they ended up with wasn't really MC (not of the same soul), because in the ending, ML and MC had cultivate strong enough and ascended to upper world (immortal world).
P.s. I also dislike Vampire Knight's ending. Although I maybe the minority who ship Kaname, but at least, make her end up with 1 guy. It's like the author couldn't decided which one to choose.

It's been quite long since I read this novel, but I think what happened was:
White Lotus (who I'll call WL from now on, bc I forgot her name) succeed in marrying the 2nd ML, but by humiliating herself. 2nd ML had been very reluctant to marry her, he had been postponing the marriage, and even indicating that he didn't want to. WL insisted that she wanted to marry him, even if he didn't love her. She even plotted 2nd ML to force him. I forgot what she did, but basically after the plot, if ML didn't marry her, her reputation (as maiden) would be destroyed. Still, her plot was known by many and she got bad reputation. 2nd ML refused to sleep with her, ever. He still married her, but ignored her. Up to 2nd ML's death, she was in the palace, but not the Empress. I think she also tried to accused ML of killing 2nd ML and tried to instill herself as the Empress. Then iirc, she was secluded in cold palace, or was she executed? I don't remember.
