There are limits when and where to these argument : "You don't know me." or "You're not me."
Mostly now it became conversational killers that people would usually use as manipulation for pity (or even to stop conversation with a person who was willing/trying to know the other's circumstance). And BJ is exactly that kind of person. He would think that he is a pitiful person or someone who had a pitiful past, and he deserve every affection or attention people gives. He would think nothing is wrong with his actions, because "I have a f*cking sad past."
Good thing SQS decided to abandon and destroy the plot he knew. Both HC and SQS deserved each other love and affection, and HC deserved not to be treated as a substitute for someone else, he is after all, his own person, an outstanding one at that too(story-wise).

SQS wore the book at the age of 22. Which is indeed young. With the following settings: 1) "never drove a car"; 2) never was in a relationship/in love. So basically this set up his inability to recognize love. The same pretty much can be said about HC, since even if he is older than SQS, but basically never knew what love is and how can he recognize what he has never experienced before.
SQS also adds up two other big interconnected aspects that prevent him from thinking of getting HC. That is: his belief in the plot and he is an emotional giver, not a taker. Ohh thank you for ur hard work ... I find it funny how BJ feels he is inferior but has overconfidence that HC should pursuer him and be his standin tsk what he thinks of himself . Is he mr universe ? Or what. Even sun jun was scummed by him . Bj is such a toxic person . And what qualifications he has to say to sqs that who is he to interfere with Hc despite Hc has shooed bj so many times... bj thinks he has right over hc . I was like what ???? I went through new chaps. It is bai xuege who made Han Cheng realised why can't he and sqs fell in love.
But Sqs still believes that plot of novel exists and that original shou wants to use Hc as a substitute (disgusting) ...
Author previous mc was better in that aspect (yan qingchi and ling qing as they were mature so they never took novel plot seriously as they believed even if something like happened they can just move on. ) .
