it was guts who grabbed griffith's hand ,, but when Guts saw Griffith's arm tear and bleed because his weakened state Guts let go

It seems like you missed quite a lot of characterization for him. Miura has painstakingly tried his best to make Griffith into a sympathetic figure throughout the manga, showing his compassionate and dark side throughout, hell he was even shocked when the God Hand said that he offered the sacrifice.
