Naruto Chapter 694 Discussion

Damn Code Geass, the only reason I haven't watched it is because I already know the ending. It's a bit sad but it's not hard to know how Naruto will end.

Not a bad chapter, at least we know a bit more about Sasuke's plan but but I don't think it's going to work as he planed. I think of it as a different version of Pain. Pain wanted peace through fear, Sasuke want's peace through common hatred, the difference here is that while Pain discouraged people to fight, Sasuke is encouraging it, een if it's against him but he won't live forever. Even if he kill the kages new kages will rise, new shinobi wil be trained and new ways to fight will be created just to fight him. And when he eventually dies conflicts will start once again. In my opinion that's the human nature, conflict, not peace. Also I guess Konoha will receive as much hate as Sasuke just because every single villain in this manga has ties to the village.

I felt a bit sad with that panel where that "people from the past" are shown. I mean, why is Obito there but not Nagato? I gues Nagato played a bigger role in Naruto's development than Obito. Is Kishimoto trying to make Obito look moreforgivable? But nevermind that. At least the fight has started hope we see something really good before the talk and flashbacks start once again.

Sasuke's answer didn't sound lame at all in MS. Rather, his reasoning and the way he wants to emulate Itachi who protected Fire country and the Leaf village from the shadows actually fits quite nicely with the literal definition of 'Kage', which means 'Shadow' in the first place.

Also, as I understand it, he doesn't want to, but actually NEEDS to kill Naruto. Not because he contains the Chakra of the Tailed Beasts (Sasuke could easily extract that with his Rinnegan) but solely because he needs to stay impartial. In other words, someone who can clearly judge and execute any given Shinobi situation by having no ties with anybody, and Naruto being his best friend is against this mantra. I really like the logic there. It may be the reason why he placed that Genjutsu on Sakura hoping to transform her love to hate, and by killing Naruto he'll also have Kakashi turn against him in revenge too. He's basically cutting all emotional ties with the few people who've been somewhat family to him, so he can rule the world with some degree of objectivity with nothing holding him back.

That's not to say his idea is not flawed or anything, because it is and terribly so. By focusing the hatred on himself alone, once he dies (because he isn't obviously immortal) it's all going to fall apart. The peace Sasuke is going for would be only an illusion, a farce created only because of a fear of him, just like with Kaguya. I kinda fault Kishimoto for being a bit too predictable and lacking in creativity when it comes to these villainous versions of peace, but it gives us the much awaited Naruto vs Sasuke battle anyway, and the conclusion of their conflict will obviously be far more interesting so whatever.

And I think Kishi just unintentionally confirmed it this chapter; Itachi is the best damn character this story has. The dude continues to be instrumental to this manga, even when it's close to its end. He's got more influence than any other character we've seen in the series, rivaling that of Minato. He remains the world to Sasuke which makes him an omnipresent force since his introduction, and he continues to shape the very fundamental beliefs and ideals both Naruto and Sasuke have held until this point, which will, as it goes, decide the very fate of their world. All hail his grace, King Itachi!!!!

Really liked what you said here, especially the kage part. And that's what I thought too regarding Sasuke saying that he has to kill Naruto and "sever the past". I don't see what's so difficult to understand about Sasuke's plan, it's just disagreeable if anything. People have already compared him to Lelouch, and his plan also reminds me of The Giver and how their community came to be. It's the same idea, destroy the past to rebuild everything. And I think that Sasuke needing to kill Naruto for his plan makes sense because it seemed to me that Naruto already made Sasuke hesitate for a second, making him remember what Itachi told him about forming bonds with people and making each other whole.

Anyways...loved the line where Sasuke says Naruto is the closest friend he's ever had ;_; He's acknowledged this once before, but it stills makes me sad that he still believes in a future without Naruto, although for a different reason this time.

NUNSR he revealed that orochimaru was an Akatsuki, what is the point with that??

That wasn't a revelation or something new. It was already stated in the manga that Orochimaru was an ex member of the Akatsuki, in the second arc after the time skip. The game just went more in depth about it.

Btw i just thought of something. What the hell ever happened to Tenten and the seal, did kishimoto like completely forget bout her or something. For a while we were speculating that she would be the one to seal madara, but it never happened.

What ever happened to that subplot?

It was said, he died in a war. But we don't know more regarding that. However, he lived long enough to fight Kakuzu after all.

The chapter was good, we heard exactly what Sasuke intends to do, even if it did feel like Code Geass all over again. I can't help but feel disappointed that there was still no fight whatsoever, but i understand it was necessary.

A great minus for this chapter would be Hagoromo. Seriously, he's still around? Just gtfo already, of course he had to waste more pages. I'm really hoping that the fight will not be interrupted by any fence-sitters. Towards the end, it just felt like more flashbacks are being dumped on us for the sake of chapter waste, so i didn't like that either.

On the other hand: "Naruto's the closest thing to a best friend i've had".  Daaaaaaaawwww. ^^

4/5.

I'm honestly rooting for Sasuke because Naruto doesn't seem fit/mature enough to be a leader(imo), but hey the story is called, "Naruto".

You didn't really thought Kishimoto would give Tenten a chance to shine did you?

Eve though it would be nice for her (and for her fans) to do something useful I guess it would be a bit anticlimatic if the main villain got defeated in such a cheap way.
