I can see Masaki being revived later to mess with Ichigo.

It's from an old interview of Kubo (I think it was before the Fullbring arc), where he said that there will be a reveal of the origins (or something like that) of Ichigo and that it will be something unexpected / surprising.maybe Ichigo never existed to begin with and he is just an illusionary individual Aizen create using Kyoka Suigetsu?

that was totally expected since that is what happened in every story arc, so it cannot be that unless he thinks that we are brainless monkeys.

That along with the vast majority of the characters in this manga being too boring and soulless to connect with. Even the "hype" is nothing more than fights that consist of people smugly one-upping each other until Kubo feels like marking another Bankai of his checklist.



They are soulles because they did not have enough individual screentime.

The cast Kubo build is way to huge for the little dialogue he puts into his chapters.



The golden rule is just pick one, none of them will get enough characterisation or screentime  anyway with the exception of Ichigo and some villains who had compareably decent development for villains.
