I don't get it. Katen Kyoukotsu held by Shunsui is the older woman while held by Nanao is the younger one or are there two of them? Like a long and short Katana when not in Shikai. Shunsui promised to never use the short one full power for one reason or another.

I just looked at the bleach wiki about Kyoukotsu in the filler arc. She was always there for Nanao, either fight her or protect her. Later She also joined party that Nanao organized etc. What a weird filler arc that was then. It was giving hints of current plot twist ( I don't how to put it in better words) :D



I dont get it too XD Bleach is getting waaay to weird and extended in my opinion. I would love to hear the story about Nanao's mother and get some more information about the zanpakto, it is indeed intersting. One of the few good things I can say about the current state of the manga.

This "Kill the enemy, but he comes back stronger and pushesh the good guy to his limits but he wins in the end" has been happening since the very beggining of the manga and is too damn cliche really. I am getting annoyed by this obvious development of the plot in this arc .. and the previous one.. and the one before.

In a mangafox's translation Nanao says: "Please take my Zanpakuto"

In a mangahen's translation Nanao says: "Here, bring out my Zanpakuto"

That's all?! I'm very disappointed. I think Shunsui suppose to be much stronger and much smarter.



Shunsui clearly was the one in the posession of the Zanpakuto, (he had two swords), he later claims to give it back. Bleach logic demands the user of the sword to bring out it´s full potential.



She´s the one who can utilize her sword to it´s maximum potential since it´s part of her soul.

During the 0 Squad arc Nimaja explains how a Zanpakotou works, he´s their inventor/creator after all.



Shinigami have regular swords, but for them to become Zanpakuto they require a part of their soul to be poured in, to become a Zanpakuto (this is actually a concept that´s common in japanese mythology, Samurai that hold their swords dearly can pass on their power through the sword, aka it becomes a part of them). That´s why Kenpachi could just pick up his sword from some random corpse and still awaken his Shikai. Theory: During his slaughtering days yachiru appeared in that lawless district and touched the sword that was engulfed in blood without fear, furthermore she claimed something like the momment she was born she knew the look of blood. Right after Kenpachi activated Nozarashi Yachiru disappeared and when she jumped on Ichigo he couldn´t feel any weight/Reiatsu from her. Hinting towards Yachiru being the sword.



Another instance where the user was hinted to be required to use a Zanpakuto to it´s full potential would be the Bankai of Yamamoto´s vice captain.

Whose Bankai was capable of scratching Yamamoto and giving him a permanent scar during a sparing match. After his Bankai was stolen by a Quincy  and used against Yama, he yelled that this Bankai wasn´t that weak.



In general the Quincy avoided using Bankai, probably because it requires profession, meaning that his giving her sword back for her to utlize it´s hax ability as even Shunsui´s Bankai seems to be useless against "the messenger of god".



Since Nanao´s mother demanded him to seal it from her it´s probably something broken with severe repurcussions.
