Kenpachi does have a shikai he just never communicated with it or something to awaken his power. Remember he said he likes to fight alone. That's why Unohana trained him, so he can achieve it. And putting his second hand on his sword, was to make his hits/strike or attack stronger.

What the hell is that sword ? Is that even a sword? Well, at the very least it fits him.



Also, couldn't have Gremmy used his meteorite as soon as he entered the Seireitei? He would've destroyed it without any other Sternritter needing to move a single finger, right?
