This complete change in character (design) really bugs me as it seems really random. Like Kubo didn't create her to be like that in the first place and just recently thought "hey, let's completely change that". Which is probably how it actually happened...

EVERYONE including Aizen of all people avoided her or any sort of direct confrontations with her.
Arrancar masked fodder soldiers RAN AWAY from her after she identified herself.
Yamaji specifically kept her out of VR fight.
So its more than likely she was always like that, just restraining herself.
Yamaji dying I guess was the breaking point.
It's not about her strength. Apparently it was hinted that she is super strong for a while. (and with hinted I mean not in the actual series but in some worthless databook and shit, so it doesn't even count in my book).
It's about her friggin' personality that changed out of fucking nowhere. She went from that nice motherly figure (that was still respected and "feared" for being strong even if it was only in a couple of comic relief panels) to THIS. If her name wasn't mentioned in this chapter I wouldn't even have recognized her. No, I do not believe that Kubo created her that many years ago with a ruthless killer in mind.

So Unohana and Kenpachi are going to fight now and one of them has to die. Hmm I highly doubt that one of them will actually die. Byakuya was supposed to die and he didn't.

Yea I noticed that as well. I guess its basically to show how they weren't treated properly.

In DBZ goku was seen to be a nice guy BUT when his friends were hurt his personality would become that of a playful monster. He would avenge his friends BUT have fun with his opponent as well, this was shown when he crushed Nappa and Rokum(IF that's how you spell that red haired ginyu force dudes name) he enoyed himself while doing it! And when Frieza hurt krillin he ultimately snapped and awoke his legendary super saiyain; this is no different
And if that isn't enough for you then remember when Gohan went SS2; that was freaking crazy. He could have easily crushed Cell at that moment- and avoided goku dying- but he instead played around with him and his minions. I think Piccolo commented on that.
So to me this WHOLE 180 isn't as abstract as certain people are making it out to be. You think if she was called the first Kenpachi she would offer tea and krumpets to her enemies and have a bubbly personality or not change when she got excited? NO! SHE.WOULD/AND WILL.JUST.F-CK.SH-T.UP. plain and simple

And ichigo.. someone had an oversized uninfluenced zanpakuto laying around for when he got rukia's powers? If he had actually overwritten rukia's zanpakuto, then that means that none of the captains need to worry about loosing bankai since they can just pour their soul into a new zanpakuto, since rukia still has a fully functioning zanpakuto...
Arrancar do not USE asauchi or zanpakutoh - they start in released forms and shrink them into swords similar to how shinigami seal their shikai. But its not the same sword.
Ichigo took Rukia's sword and shaped it into his own. Even when he was awakening his own power at Urahara's he had broken hilt of that sword.
The difference with soul is that there might be NOTHING to POUR into asauchi after its broken. It has formed itself from part of user's soul, thus destroying a sword, would imply destroying that everything that defines the user's power.
Rukia did not "lose" her powers, she got her powers "depleted", she did not need to create them new ones, just like Ichigo after he lost his powers via FGT
I dont think he took rukias sword. Its an ambiguous topic, such as do souls receive their uniform when they become shinigami, or do they somehow get it when they become shinigami? He took her sword into his heart, she 'lost' her powers and went into her gigai. Like ichigo she doesnt carry her zanpakutou around until shes in soul form. I think ichigo miraculously got both his uniform and his sword as he became shinigami. The reason i think that is because once an asauchi has 'absorbed' (for lack of a better term) someones soul, it can't absorb anyone elses. Also, if he took her sword, how did she get hers back and he kept his? Guy said it takes a while of living with the sword for it to absorb their soul.
1. Rukia stabs Ichigo.
2. Portion of Rukia's reiatsu goes into him, mixes with untapped potential, awakening powers.
3. Rukia's "soul" leaves the sword she uses.
4. Ichigo uses the now empty Asauchi to create a makeshift piss poor nameless sword.
5. Rukia's gigai drains her reiatsu making her nigh powerless(but the whole of her power is in her), while Ichigo uses the part of her reiatsu he took with is innate abilities.
6. Byakuya shatters his makeshift sword and destroy the reiatsu he took from Rukia, leaving him powerless.
7. Ichigo goes into training and uses yet again powerless sword(in form of sword hilt) to shape Zangetsu.
8. Rukia after execution stuff ends just spends time in SS and most likely just transfers her powerset into empty asauchi, which is not that different form how Ichigo reawakened his powers with Urahara, but slower.
Now when sword is destroyed it destroys what is BOUND to that sword at the moment.
