I have no memory of that phrase but you might consider it as a phrase from one with whom Ikkaku spends a lot of time with, so it's kinda "reasonable" for someone like that to understand a little more than one who doesn't even pay attention to Ikkaku. It's not like captain-class are omnipotent and all-knowing.

I see what you're trying to say, but at the same time I could say, that Ikkaku's sword is at his shikai at the moment of the fight without any indication of being something more(look at his vs. Ichi fight) and discussion would continue - but I would like to stop here, because it's a really minor matter and it's not something that annoys me in some great manner. ;]
