I'll say it again, they ALL need proper training! Having a strong bloodline helped both him and Ishida become elites, but they still had to work hard for it too.
And Ichigo is special alright. But an experiment created in a lab? That's not likely, since his little sister is showing some pretty high potential too.
I don't really care if Ichigo's mother is a Quincy, Hollow or Human. With all the things Ichigo has gone through... his inner hollow, the Final Getsuga Tensho and the Fullbring powers, it's really not that strange that he's this strong.
The key lies in his experiences and that sword he is holding, and I wouldn't be surprised if his little sister could bring out a Getsu-sword too if she learned how to become a shingami.
It might have a LOT to do with the family too, since -getsu sword seems to be hereditary thing.
However Ichigo is clearly singled out of the rest. He might not have been lab-experiment, but his birth or the circumstances of his creation MIGHT have been some sort of experiment in that family. Half the SS seemed to know who he is since the start and both Ukitake and Shunsui talk about him as someone whom they have observed or known about for a LONG time.

From the way it was discussed, Isshin was forced to DO something that made him lose his power, which he only regained recently before the grand-fisher return.

Ichigo's birth is a huge mystery. SS knew about him, Aizen knew about him since he was born, Ukitake and Shunsui talked about him as if they have watched him the whole life of his. I wonder at which point in the manga will this be revealed...ch 600 would be my guess or hopefully sooner.
Also there's that "Special Weapon" thing the quincies keep calling him....I wonder...what if there's another meaning behind those words.
Urahara told Ichigo they fear him but what if we're misunderstanding something...what if by 'special' the quincies intend to use the bankai stealing things as a means to turn our special strawberry into a tactical nuke against SS.

+ Don't forget Isshin somehow knows Ryuuken very well.Which i think leads to something important...i mean Isshin was/is Shinigami and Ryuuken is Quincy.
What if SS removed Isshin Shinigami powers because he had romance with Quincy (Ichigo's mother).And Ryuuken was some relative of Ichigo's mother o.o *WTF speculation mode on*
There are so much things i want to know.
And if Ichigo mother is Ryuken sister then Ichigo and Ishida are cousin. *whistle*
On a serious note. Does a quincy mother can give any benefit to her son? When quincies are teachings and not race. If yes then how? If no then why Aizen sound so dramatic when he said "You're offspring of Shinigami AND"... *dun dun dun*
Also her mother died because of hollow and was attacked by hollow before his birth. No matter what she was, but does she lost her powers to get attacked two times by some lowly hollows?
Most interesting thing would be if her mother was the first arrancer and lost her all powers later and that's how ichigo got his hollow mask + full hollow transformation and abilities which surpass even captain level shinigamis.
