Uhh... not really. If it makes you feel better, shonen manga tend to look a lot like each other; but unless I use a lot of imagination, I don't really see the resemblance.

Well, I do, so too bad. Yes, mainstream shounen series do look a lot like each other, but this particular arc is different.

Negima's similarities to Dragon Ball are pretty damn obvious. You'd have to be a complete dimwit to not see them.

Some thing do ressemble DB, some don't.

I agree with blopa on this one, you are pushing it a little too much.

Might as well say it is a rip off of bleach since it has swordfight.

Negi never turned to stone, he lost conciousness and that is all as he was stated to breath and have a pulse. You are conveniently assuming things to make your argument look valid.

He clearly turned to stone.

The tale of the monkey Sangoku is one of them, which Dragonball was inspired from, because yes Dragonball was inspired from something existing.

'Journey to the West' is the title of the Chinese story Dragon Ball was inspired by. Everyone and their dog knows that.

The point is not if an anime did it before, it is that the concept existed before.

Good job, you broke your argument. There's now no longer any point in arguing with you as you still don't know what the word "similarity" means.

So, Negi is stronger than the new dolls, but Tertium (Fate) isn't stronger than the new dolls?

Unless Tertium pulls out some kind of super form that makes him even stronger (it's highly likely), Negi will outclass him easy.

Also, an observation: This arc seems to be borrowing a lot from Dragon Ball, most notably the Andriod and Cell Games arcs (assuming that Negi plays both the roles of Goku and Gohan). One can assume that the underlings encountered (Zazie's sister, Homura, Koyomi, Shirabe, Tamaki, Tsukoyomi) are the androids. Tertium can be considered Cell. Sextum, Quintum and Quartum could, in a way, be considered the Cell Jr.

Negi (Goku) fought to a standstill until he was no longer able to battle, when he then  decided to call upon his secret weapon (Gohan). Negi (Gohan) wasn't able to get anywhere with his power and he seemed defeated, with Sextum, Quintum and Quartum (Cell Jr.) then being released to kill his allies. As this is happening Negi (Gohan) looks in upon himself and comes to a realisation which unlocks his true potential, allowing him to beat the previously super powerful Dolls (Cell Jr.) with little to no effort being involved.

Don't know if Negi did it intentionally, but in the end Quartum gets cut in half just like Chachamaru was cut in half, a bit of poetic justice. ;D

- Negi was not turned into stone, he was turned into... well, I don't know XD, but he moved a little while under that condition, so was not petrification. And slow petrification would have killed him like almost happened in the Kyoto arc. Also do note that Negi did not use all of his power, he was consumed by the darkness. It's like his body was perfectly fine but at the same time was paralized by the embodiment of his psychological traumas... or something similar to that.

I don't remember him moving in the slightest. When he was lying down, he was in the same position is was in when standing up. More so, what do you call the cracks around his body then? They look like cracks in stone to me. This is backed by the fact that the stone, be it an outer layer or completely going through him, shatters when he recovers.

Being consumed by the darkness is the equivalent to using up all his power. He reached the end.

- I do not know of a pre-Dragon Ball manga as focused on training as Dragon Ball was, so being with an enemy or not, that and the hair change are probably traits that started there (also, I'm too lazy to check Astroboy for those kind of things). Although right now those have been used even for mahou shoujo series XD

I'm also familiar with Astro Boy. Astro was only typical shounen in that it introduced the "character of the week" plot event.

Still , I believe you have to look too hard to see the comparison you made between this arc and Cell's arc. Specially since Negima role characters take much more part in the story than Dragon Ball (Z) role characters, and you skipped them all in your scenario.

How? They speak about as much as the other Z characters in the other Android and Cell arcs. Pre-Cell Games, every character gets a piece of Cell. Krillin and Tien even go head-to-head with Cell and they're considered the weakest relevant Z characters (relevant meaning they actually actively takes part in the story). I did not need to mention the other Negima characters, because they're not really relevant right now. I did mention how the Dolls are trying to wipe out his allies, which is the extent of their relevance right now.

If you wanted me to expand on the similarities, let's say that Zazie's sister was Android 17 and Mana was Piccolo. Tsukoyomi could easy be Android 18, but her and Setsuna's battle has almost been forgotten.

It's simple to draw comparisons. Are you just trying to make it seem less so because you don't like DBZ, is that it?

Since when did I say it was a rip off? I was drawing similarities. Learn the difference.

My bad on the word used.

Negima still doesn't ressemble bleach because it has swordfight, my point is still valid.

You didn't make a point, considering your completely simplistic and completely different "point" is nothing compared to the similarity I drew with Dragon Ball.

Dragon Ball is the mac daddy of shounen. If you still can't see the similarities (the hair extensions, the demonic animal transformation which enables a power increase, turning to stone when you've used up all your power, training with a former enemy, etc etc), you have got to be completely retarded.

I mean, yeah if you turn the corner real fast some thing may look up like thing that happened in dragonball, but you are mostly pusshing it.

Honestly. The whole "it didn't invent it" argument isn't getting you anywhere.

What's more influential? Some random shounen series pre-1985, or Dragon Ball?

The demonic animal transformation which enables a power increase -> You got to be completely retarded for thinking dragonball invented this.

Name a popular pre-Dragon Ball series that used this plot device.

Training with a former ennemy -> You also got to be completely retarded for thinking dragonball invented this.

Name a popular pre-Dragon Ball series that used this plot device.

About turning to stone when you've used all your power, you gotta remind me where this was in Negima because the only stone transformation I've seen was caused by an acual spell.

Did the past 10 chapters not happen? Negi went much too far with his power which caused him to turn to stone. He drove himself into the ground, exactly as Vegeta did in his last attack against Majin Buu. It was far from petrification caused by a spell.

I think the main purpose of the whole Fate vs Quintum fight is to say "Yeah, Fate is still stronger than these other guys. Yes, there is still dramatic tension."

I'm wondering where Negi thinks up all these new attacks. I'm not disappointed or anything, just curious.

Well Negi was said to be a genius for designing and creating spell, I don't think it is weird especially since they are only variant of his main spells.

Fate is getting beated up, he's really damaged from his last battle. I see him winning but maybe not alone, Negi's group might end up helping him defeat Quintum.
