D.Gray-man Chapter 218 Discussion

Omg it stopped in 2012 and I still don't know what the hell happened. Is the earl Mana? Whatever... I just hope it's not gona be like Nana and it will continue soon...

I would like to help clear something up about Chapter 218. Alot of people have been saying that the Earl is calling Allen Mana. I don't think that's it. In a few pages before that, he sees Johnny helping Allen and starts comparing him to Mana. The flashback happens, then we come back with him being deranged. I think he was saying that Johnny was like Mana. Not that Allen was Mana.

Also during that time, one the flashback ended, Allen was Neah. One: The showed Neah figure above Allen and Two: He called out to his mom and mana after witnessing her death (sitting by the tree)and mana confrontation with the earl. Neah was in control.



I hope this cleared up some confusion although the Earl=Mana makes since on some points but I don't want to get into that until I know more.



P.s I think Link is the 14th Zhu not Noah. That would make no sense to add that now. 14 seems to be Hoshino favorite number lol

Someone else will be supporting her chapterS.

I just explained that this is an indefinite *hiatus* and not a cancellation. As taydev noted, no official source will tell you otherwise.

Well, I guess I will wait for the next chapters to understand more of this.

Good question. The folks I've discussed this with and I have several different possibilities for what was going on there. Here are a few of those...



1. Mana's soul was drawn from the Earl and not from "Heaven" or wherever they're normally supposed to be called from in the DGM world. The rest is more or less as we know it from the manga backstory.



(**Actually, it might be nothing, but notice that in page 16, there's a very odd colour-negative image of the Earl in the middle of Mana's rage/woe-filled yelling at Allen? See it, with musical notes above his head? Every other image on that page looks normal and not distorted in any way, but for that one panel he looks very strange. Could that be a hint?)



2. Mana really did die (as a regular human) and his soul went wherever they go in DGM, but his body was "kept" by the Earl. When Allen called Mana's soul back, it messed with the Earl and Allen got cursed.



3. Allen's memories are either partially distorted or not at all reliable. (Actually one of these might be the case either way, seeing as it is implied that Allen is forgetting/misremembering something both by Nea in chapter 198 saying Allen and the Earl are "broken" or "mad" (depending on translation-- I'll have to check the Japanese at some point) "dolls" and by Allen nearly turning into Nea right before Apocryphos first attacked him in 203, just because he wondered if something would "change" if he remembered.)



There are more theories but I'll just leave it at that for now.

You mean inside the Earl's costume? That's the Millennium Earl himself-- his regular human (all Noah are still human, remember) body as seen in the middle of chapter 188 (where he magically puts the costume on while saying he "can't stand still" just like Mana would) and the beginning of 203 (where he's waking up in bed because he just suddenly knows Allen/Nea's in danger from Apocryphos-- and that's why Tyki and Road went to help him). The Earl looks strikingly like the middle-aged Mana Allen knew. He's the only character in the series who does, actually. And isn't it convenient that despite being out of his costume for so many pages of 218, Allen hasn't seen the Earl's *face* yet because he was knocked into a wall and sprawled on the ground as Johnny approached. He hasn't had a chance to *look* at the Earl's face yet!

Whatt...?! This flashback confuse me!

Hum, but who was the man inside the Earl's globe? Wasn't he Mana crying for Noa?
