Decent chapter. I expected a bigger flashback, but it was alright. It has to be said that the Happy plot brake is too strong. It is almost as if he knew that if he had let Natsu kill Zeref then everything would have ended. It seems that a hidden power helped Happy stop Natsu. A power quite possibly related to friendship. Of course, I could be wrong... (;¬_¬)

So will Natsu really die at the end?

No, it´s a Hiro Mashima Shounen they´ll bend the rules somehow and find a way to safe him even if it´s the power of love.

Literally the same story was used in Fire emblem awakening and people (including me) were ok with it, you don´t want your hero you went so much through with to die at the very end.

Woulda made more sense if the ending was tied to your supports, though.  I mean c'mon, the one game where you can support as much as you want and they don't let it tie into the story despite the narrative basically saying it should?

Anyway, I could rant about Awakening for hours, so I'll just say okay chapter. Not sure if I understand Anna and Layla's part, though.  So Anna opens the gate and sends them in, but they only come out when Layla opens in in 777?  Then who put the 10,000 dragons in it so they came out after the GMG, or was that altered because of the moon making it so the dragons didn't have to be put in?

the 10k dragons thing has nothing to do with the dragon slayers thing. They are two separate events

Exactly.  What I'm asking is if the gate has to be opened on both sides, which is the impression I got, who opened in and put the dragons in back in the past?

Now that I think about it, to open the Gate, Layla would've needed all twelve keys, but when she retired she distributed 3 of them...

...Brandish, please have answers.  This chapter's actually made me more hyped to learn about Layla.

Mangastream's translation was quite didactic. Apparently,it wasn't Anna's plan,it was her clan's. They pinpointed that the current era in fairy tail would be the most appropriate to release the dragons because of the etherano abundance. Layla sealed the deal by opening the door on july 7 X777,allowing them to time travel to it.

Now I wonder. By the way Zeref spoke,it looks like it was either planned or that it was a happy accident.  Still, would he thank her if it was an accident, plus,Brandish implied she was from albareth, therefore a possible subordinate to Zeref. We got many answers but even more questions.

So I guess every demon of the book of Zeref is linked somehow to Zeref himself, thus if he dies, every demon dies, including Natsu...

That's interesting, quite simple but I never thought about it.

Also, not sure if I understood the Layla/Anna part, Anna was the one who created the Gate and Layla the one who opened it?

And in this chapter we see how IMPORTANT Zeref himself is, there's no limit to his bounds with the world, the guy even had a friendship with the dragons, this is why you can't just expect for him to die like what it appeared to be in the last chapter, he is way too important and after this chapter I have a feeling he won't really die in the end of the series, not because of his link with Natsu but just because how relevant he seems to pretty much everything.

Marde also confirmed as a delusional liar so any information about END Tartaros had is wrong.

I guessed that because Natsu is END, if the book was damaged he would get hurt too. That scene when Zeref punched a hole in the book confirmed my theory. It makes me wonder how it will all go down between Gray and Natsu because Gray wants to destroy END, but Natsu IS END. Unless Natsu wants to die he'll either have to tell Gray and hope he and Gray come to a compromise or get to it first and hide it. I'm not sure how it'll go because it's been shown that Gray still cares for Natsu, but he has become... edgier. This chapter was really good, I can't wait for the revelations to be further explained and elaborated. I wonder how the other dragon slayers will react?

Pretty much, he openly admitted that he regreted to have killed Siegheart (Jellal) in Rave Master, which is why I was confused when Jellal died during tower of heaven arc.

Juvia is a callback to Reina and Gray obviously to Musica, but so are Bisca and Alzack. As Laxus  and Gildarts are callbacks to King.

Hiro Mashima also openly stated that he intends FT to be a happier story than Rave was, which is why some of the twists are played out differently.

My assumption is that he initially intended to make Elfman the Let of the story but  because he introduced so many characters he all wants to develop he´s in a pinch right now on who to develop first.

I agree, Fairy Tail is definitely is a more lighthearted series than Rave was. And the outcome of some scenes, is sometimes a happy one or silly. Tho there are still things that are 'dark' in the series, like most of the characters back stories, Lucy seeing herself dying was pretty f*cked up if you ask me, etc.

On the development part, yeah, we've seen it with minor characters like Bisca, Max and Warren which all got some little development here and there, Ichiya too.
