Igneel couldn´t defeat E.N.D because he adopted him, he knows that Natsu is E.N.D but he didn´t knew a way of seperating the demon from Natsu, whatever it is.



Igneel couldn´t do it because E.N.D was a child that taught him to love children.



We don't know the full details yet. For all accounts it's possible that Igneel only discovered that END was in fact a child only after a grueling battle.

You might to want to actually understand that END will be exclusively using curses which are not compatible with magic aka dragonslaying.

Where was it ever stated that curses aren't compatible with magic? It was only ever stated that the demons used Curse, and ability stronger than magic (and yet look what happened to Tartaros). It was also stated that removing magic would not remove Curses. So, tell me how curses aren't compatible, please.

Bait and switch at it's finest. I thought Zeref and Acnologia weren't going to be the manga's final enemies,but still,to Zeref being taken out just like this. Mashima outdid himself here.



Not that I am complaining. Zeref was taken out by Ultear before,so despite all his power,he probably can`t tank much damage. I knew there was a link between Zeref and Layla. What`s most intriguing is that Zeref thanked Layla before thanking Mavis. It confirms they are acquaintances,what Brandish implied when she confirmed she knew her.



I first thought she was one of the twelve after what Brandish said,considering she had enough magic power to easily summon three spirits. Now,I am not so sure. I don`t think she was his lover,either. She was probably a partner or something.



An undying power vs an Immortal. If Zeref is so sure its contradictory enough to kill him,I fail to see him surviving.



Still,Igneel is dead,Zeref dead,Layla is dead,supposedly. Who the hell will inform fairy tail and us,the viewers and readers,about the events in 400 hundred years ago? Plus,who will replace Zeref as Albareth`s emperor,I wonder...

My take on the connection between Layla, Igneel, Zeref and of course Natsu (E.N.D).



Please bare with me.



At some point in time, Igneel is unable to defeat E.N.D.... But why?



Here's my take, at some point Zeref and Igneel cross paths, probably because Igneel wants to  stop the death trail that follows Zeref or END.



During the  encounter Igneel cannot vanquish the immortal Zeref, and it is then that Zeref explains ENDs purpose, being the sole entity that can possibly overcome the curse of ankersham.



Impressed by both Igneel's valor and strength, Zeref beseeches Igneel to raise Natsu, and pass on both his nobility and power to the child so that he may one day serve his purpose and lift Zeref's curse by ending his life....



....But we know this so how does Layla tie into it....





Both the disappearance of dragons (later explained as said dragons dwelling within the dragon slayers in order to allow them to grow while still watching over them) as well as the death of Layla OCCUR IN THE SAME YEAR!!!!

If you payed attention to the primordial "one magic" that Layla explains to Lucy, she states that it is simply LOVE.



I believe that Layla is some how moved by Zeref's and Igneel's love for Natsu, and because of that, she sacrifices her life in order to seal the Dragons away into the dragon slayers; knowing that natsu's love for Igneel would force him to become stronger after his father had disappeared, as well as how much growth he would grow after Igneel would break the seal and reassure Natsu of his undying love for him as his son. Essentially rekindling the flame of Love that has driven him all his life.



I believe that layla's love for Lucy and her desire to protect her daughter's future from the inevitable sadness that is Zeref not only influenced her decision; I believe it also empowered her "one magic" and enabled her to perform the impossible task of turning the dragons into love itself and sealing them in the hearts of their children.



Essentially, it is due to Layla's sacrifice that Natsu is able to inherit and unleash the Igneel's unrelenting love, symbolized by the immense power and heat of the dragon king mode.

Yep a power up that actually makes sense... well Dragon Force makes sense too unlike the elements mode. But it's cool, after he uses all that's left of Igneel last magic, he won't be able to use it agian, which is neat, because this shit is OP as fuck, but then again its the magic of the King of Fire Dragons.



Natsu is still plenty OP against non immortal enemies tho since he only started using this power AFTER he took off the bandage. Meaning everything he's done up to this point is still his own power. This is something specifically for Zeref.

I can see natsu transforming into Etherious form to beat all of Acnologia. But Acnologia will take Zeref in and become the immortal dragon king and the Etherious Natus Dragneel will beat them all Fairy Tail Style.

Even more so if you factor in that END now has access to Dragon Slayer magic as well.
