Fairy Tail Chapter 458 Discussion

  • #106
Like what other people said, out of all the post Edolas fights with Erza in them, this atleast didn't make me want to bash her stupid plot armor wearing ass. What she did was a legit strategy to beat an opponent clearly stronger than her, just a little bit confused on how the cannon didn't hit Erza...atleast the explosion. I mean, that ending would've had so much more impact if it took out Ajeel and wounded Erza pretty badly showing just what it took to take down a single Spriggan.

@Isterio well focusing on the main characters isn't a bad thing. And the main characters have some interesting stuff tied to them. Lucy's parents are becoming more relevant (especially her mom). Natsu always had a sense of mystery to him, I mean randomly getting into that forest and meeting Igneel? How he got there? What happened? Some stuff are getting explained and make sense so thats good.

In regards to the fanservice, Mashima squezes is there so that he has time to think about plot points and stuff. Because honestly you don't need much to draw some ass & tits shots. Plus its not like every chapter has fanservice (people often exagerrate). And its not like FT its the only big shounen that has fanservice (talking about sexual fanservice).

Fairy Tail is the biggest Battle Shounen with lots of Fanservice.

It´s the dissapointment that kicked in when people expected it to be the next One Piece or Naruto. Ofc there are the Shokugeki no Soumas the Nisekois the Highschool DxDs  and how they are all called. All Shounen yet none of them that advertises itself as a battle series, you get what you expect blunt naked bodies and panty shots.

And no I do agree you can focus on just the main cast, Imo Naruto did this right, Kishimoto focused on 2-3 characters mainly and exposed the villains giving them interesting backstories and motives. Ofc it´s debateable if this was the right thing to do.

However, One Piece deals with a cast of 9 main characters that grew to that amount steadily, it didn´t introduce them and tossed them aside, it always delivers an arc towards the member that´ll join and maybe he´ll get an arc revolving around him later on.

As for the fanservice part, since the timeskip One Piece got a shitload of flak from fans that are pissed off at the new designs of Nami and Robin and their lack of focus. I think Toei is to blame for this as well, the same goes for the FT Anime, shit I dunno where to begin with A1´s fuckups.

If you wanna witness an Anime being milked watch one piece glorious island.

This is so blatantly cheap and stupid, but it works to get in the money. The companies know this. So what´s the difference between Hiro´s fanservice and this piece of shit. It´s a piece of shit that has nothing going for it outside of it´s Art and Animation and clearly is blatantly Otaku pandering with a million ass and titshots and nothing else in a One Piece costume.

However it doesn´t distract from the main story, it´s not in the middle of a fight,

Kishimoto delivered his fanservice through Naruto trolling or onsen scenes.

Oda delivers, more than ever but he tends to restrict it to bathing scenes or during exposition.

Hiro throws his fanservice in during scenes like these.

Like Isterio stated, this fight was poorly paced, and terribly executed. Whether she lost or won, doesn't change the fact that the whole fight scene was executed so bad, it makes Erza seem even more OP than she originally is.

The power levels are inconsistent as fuck.

Also I started reading Fairy Tail after the first season ended. I'm probably going to start re-reading it sooner or later to refresh my mind.

Well of course Miss Mary Sue wins. Because she has armor and weapon for every situation and if not then she wins because she's erza...

Gods this manga would be so much better without her.

But one of the best arc would not be with out her

Erza's plot armor from GMG strikes back. Erza already has plot armor from being one of the main characters, with the armor functioning as a secondary layer (you know, in case push comes to shove.. even though she would simply win "because she's Erza"). Of course, obligatory pressure for Erza during the fight, since nobody would have liked it if she had just pulled out Nakagami from the start and one shot Ajeel. Have to give the boy some time to show off his Max powers.

And, while we're at it, having things like Bisca missing or shooting Erza by accident through the intense sandstorm would have been disastrous to the progress of the fight. It would have seemed as though Fairy Tail has raised the stakes in a long time, but we can't have that in our shounen nakama infused with friendship type of series. Okay chapter overall.

Oh well.. hopefully we'll return to Cana, Lucy and Brandish and learn more about the relationship between Lucy's mother and her.

He got the team rocket treatment. Even with the twinkle in the sky. So he might come back. It's not impossible

Actually I think the light on the sky is from Erza's attack and because they're on the flying ship that's all the way up there it makes look like he was sent flying but actually that was just Erza's attack.

And yeah, would love if he's actually still up to go, felt like this fight ended way too fast.

Ok, honestly give me a reason why this conclusion was unsatisfying for people?

Kyoka vs Erza took several chapters and was entertaining. It became bullshit when it concluded. Why was it bullshit? Because it was unbelieveable cheaply written and ended on a boring climax.

Fairy Tail is known to oneshot it´s enemies and no it´s not because she´s Erza.

Natsu, Lucy Gray, even Ichija have bullshit wins under their belt, so has Mirajane Seliah vs Mira was bullshit.Elfman came in kicked her and she died

The sole reason Erza has the most bullshit fights is because she has the most fights in general with Natsu.

Why is this fight bad? It did nothing different from usual FT fights.

The first of an elite group got beaten fairly quickly, and required a team effort to be taken down, without any speeches and even some tactical usage of abilities.

It´s not like she used a Pikachu against a ground type, she went out of her way to take a water type and even called in assistance to beat a boss. What´s peoples problem with this?

People here will never be satisfied. Yes they did hype the sand guy up to be really strong but we didn't really know how strong Erza is.

And style makes fights. Erza did lose instantly lose to some random goon earlier in the arc but she was gimped so we didn't really know how strong Erza  was if she fought someone who couldn't gimp her completely.

What if Erza loses straight up? Would people really be happy with that either? Yes this conclusion left something to be desired but if Erza lost (assuming she is probably among the strongest of the protagonists in this arc), how would they get out of this pickle?

Do you want Jellal to come out of nowhere to save them? Jellal probably will come out of nowhere to save the day later on anyway but I doubt Jellal and his group will be enough to help take down the 12 anyway. Even now I don't know how the protagonists are going to have a chance and Erza already took down one of them (probably).

In the end the biggest mistake wasn't that Erza won, it was that the 12 were massively overhyped by Hiro. By making them too powerful, Hiro will have to pull off some pretty lame moves to kill them off anyway and considering the current situation I have to say that it isn't going as bad as I thought it was going to go.

Meh.

The manga is too predictable. I can see FT overpowering all the antagonists in this arc.
