Gotta wonder how tho since none of the blue Pegasus people showed any ability to camouflage. I doubt Mashima thought things through that thoroughly sadly. He made this plothole for himself when he decided to put the Raijinshu with Blue Pegassus for the lols and fanservice instead of having them hiding out in Alvarez keeping an eye on Makarov.

Sorano did it by going UNDER WATER. That doesn't compare to flying in broad daylight in the sky

But in fact there's some reason on that. The major component of sand is silicon dioxide. This component is the primarily used for making glass. But in a insane temperature of over than 3000º C, the silicon dioxide reach the eboiling point, and became vapor.
The question is not for sand evaporate, but how the hell they survive a temperature of 3000º C. The inner core of earth has 6000ºC.
