I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t worried about the direction the story is going.

The stakes are definitely getting higher though.

The natives dying of a disease so conflict will become even less likely? Shock!! Everyone being against and even punching the only person here with any sense? Shock!

This author has really shown his lack of strong writing this arc, it's always been there since farmland saga, but never obvious in the way it is now. My rating of the manga goes down yet again. The fact you thought the conflict will be less from the way the chapter literally told you AND even showed u the end of the page shows you couldn't understand the whole theme of the whole series let alone what the whole message of the arc itself Mate, Yukimura's writing has been all over the place this arc. There's no theme and message I could miss, I just disagree with and don't like all of it. Yukimura will attempt to write this in a way that will have the least violence possible surrounding Thorfinn, come back to this post.explain how he's all over the place...

you keep saying he's all over the place when the writing of this arc is literally ALL what Thorfinn has been learning since he changed in farm arc.

And so the spiral to inevitable disaster continues, and now we have infighting in the Nords camp as well. Even though Thorfinn means well, the spreading disease among the natives has taken this completely out of hands and is not something has pacifist ideology can change.

As for the discussion for how this series ends for Thorfinn, my gut feeling is that what's going to happen is Thorfinn and a small band of survivors will return to Iceland defeated and quietly see out their days. That would match the fact that this whole venture historically failed while also not being an outright miserable ending: Thorfinn will have to live with his failure, but at least he'd still be alive with his family. It would also somewhat mirror Thors right at the very start of the series in that both would eke out a meager but peaceful living in the corner of the world. The only problem with that idea is that it would kind of undercut the series' entire messaging, but equally a utopia-esque ending where Thorfinn succeeds just doesn't feel believable to me at all.

Lots of advancement on the natives in this chapter. Disease is plaguing the place that's supposed to be the one truly peaceful place, fits right in with the themes of the series from the start
