I checked the raws for this chapter. Canute's line that caused this debate roughly translates to "all of this is for the love that has been lost", which could be a reference to the biblical love thing that the priest talked about that initiated Canute's change.

The whole build is already paying off. I really like where this is going and the stakes feel damn high.
