Popular Reviews
Some narratives are relatively tame, involving a partner developing feelings for someone else, often a friend of their significant other. Others depict explicit acts of cheating. Despite their differing approaches, all four oneshots share a unifying thread of emotional pain and the challenges faced when relationships unravel due to such betrayals.
This focus sets these tales apart from typical shoujo romance manga, offering a refreshing perspective. The premise is one that could easily be expanded into a more extended, emotionally charged series, which might appeal or deter depending on personal tastes.
However, a significant drawback is the overall blandness of the collection. The stories are neither particularly bad nor especially good, landing somewhere in mediocrity. Beyond its concept, the anthology feels regrettably forgettable.
A major reason for this lies in the characters themselves. I found it difficult to connect with any of them, so the intended sorrow of their situations failed to elicit much emotional response from me.
In stories meant to convey the anguish of shifting affections, it's problematic when the reader doesn't feel the characters' sadness. While the characters are supposed to love each other deeply, I didn't experience that connection. Despite witnessing their tears and dramatic moments, these elements felt hollow.
The brevity of the narratives might also be a factor, potentially insufficient to fully develop the characters or address the complex themes. Regardless, the stories lack the impact needed to stir strong reactions like crying, cheering, or intense frustration in readers.
That said, it's not an entirely unsatisfactory read. If you're drawn to explorations of wandering emotions, this collection might resonate with you more than it did with me. Just don't anticipate anything extraordinary or profoundly moving.
For me, it remains squarely within the realm of average, earning a rating of 5.
