Popular Reviews
The original source is the Kanon visual novel, which means the manga is merely an adaptation and not the primary material.
Reading it on its own can leave you utterly confused since the chapters don't connect smoothly. It's more like a series of separate arcs.
The full volumes were released months after the 2002 TOEI anime adaptation of Kanon. I believe the manga was intended to be read as a supplement after watching the anime or playing the visual novel, allowing readers to revisit individual arcs in physical form.
When I began reading the manga, having watched the 2002 anime adaptation in early 2024, I still found the manga to be terrible. Even with prior knowledge of the story, the manga feels incomplete. As such, reading it is a total waste of time.
This is disappointing because I enjoy most of TOEI's adaptation, and I think I would appreciate KyoAni's version as well.
Story: 10
In a nutshell, Kanon revolves around a guy, Aizawa Yuichi, who begins living in a town where he encounters numerous girls and enjoys himself daily. Each chapter focuses on one girl, condensing their arcs from the game into a manga-friendly format. This manga is pure joy, filled with cute and funny moments, with most of the sorrowful parts removed.
Art: 9
Though the art style may not be realistic, it is undeniably charming and endearing. The lively and casual illustrations make for an enjoyable, relaxed reading experience.
Character: 10
There might be some bias here since I read this after watching the anime (2006), but the characters in the manga are impeccable. The male protagonist is kind, humorous, and occasionally sassy, while the female leads are distinct and, above all, MOE.
Enjoyment: 10
Kanon is a meticulously crafted comedy manga. While it veers away from the romance and harem elements present in the game and anime, its comedic tone transforms it into something truly delightful.
For those who have seen Kanon (2002 or 2006), this review might resonate more deeply.
Your Enjoyment of the anime - Sad moments + More kawaii moments + More funny moments = This Manga
