#I am really just a substitute, they just don’t believe it#

Lin Lan, the genius mid-laner who won the LOL Grand Slam, died in a car accident. Upon waking up, he transmigrated to a parallel world and discovered that his counterpart in this world was a complete loser.

Not only is he technically poor with no friends, but the team he is in is also broken and lousy. Fortunately, the boss is not bad, and the training is not too hard. Lin Lan, who has been tired all his life, quickly falls in love with this place. To maintain his laid-back lifestyle, he occasionally lends a hand to the team.

But why do people around him look at him with increasingly strange eyes?

DT team has a new substitute support, at first everything seems normal, but gradually becomes absurd.

The starting support injures his hand, and Lin Lan in the corner lazily stands up, “I got this.”

With one hand on Lux support, he scores a pentakill and wipes out the opponents.

Teammates: ????

The AD player had a family emergency and was torn between the hospital and the arena. Lin Lan pats his shoulder, “You go, leave the game to me.”

With one hand on Draven, he takes the high ground in fifteen minutes, and at twenty minutes, he cuts down an opponent like a child.

Opponents: ????

The top laner and the management disagree, angrily throwing equipment and leaving. Lin Lan lazily picks up the equipment and sits in the top lane position.

With one hand on top lane, he instakills like a blade sister, dominating the air.

Audience: ????

The mid-laner’s contract expires, preferring to be a substitute for another team than stay. The club is in a mess, and Lin Lan stands up casually, “Captain, actually my main role is mid-lane. How about letting me try?”

Captain: ? I feel like something’s off with this substitute!

*On the second day of rebirth, Lin Lan sees someone who looks a lot like the silly dog captain from his past life. He tentatively calls out to him, “Hey, silly dog.”

Xiao Shengjing, with a cold face, takes out his phone, “Insulting the captain, deduct two hundred.”

Lin Lan: “…” Captain, listen to my explanation!

The summary sounds intriguing; I can already picture it as a comedic journey. Surprisingly, there were mysteries involved, which I didn't anticipate. The protagonist, after a cross-world migration due to a coma in their original world, starts a career in professional gaming, shifting roles like costumes, all while searching for the truth behind Ori MC's suicide. The progression through LDL, LPL, and world championships kept me engaged.

What caught me off guard was the unexpected plot twist: in the Ori world, the main character (ML) had a five-year unrequited love for the protagonist, stemming from ML's principles and aloofness, leaving no room for affection. In contrast, the parallel world's ML is warm and supportive, eventually drawing the protagonist closer. The Ori world's ML even tries to reclaim the protagonist by taking over the parallel ML's body, but the protagonist fiercely defends the love they've found.

This story beautifully illustrates how timing plays a crucial role in love. Parallel ML and Ori MC's connection blossomed when they met at the right moment in a different world, with different versions of themselves. It's a fascinating narrative twist that shows love transcending boundaries and dimensions.

If I hadn't delved into numerous e-sports novels beforehand, I might have appreciated this story more. The parallel world aspect was a refreshing twist, albeit one that's not entirely unique within genres like IF/UF and QT. The lack of suspense was disappointing, given how the protagonist's overpowered nature made his victories predictable. Although I did enjoy witnessing his character growth, it felt unsatisfactory to see the original DT members treated as expendable, and even those with potential reduced to mere caricatures serving the plot. Most supporting characters were relegated to providing comic relief, which detracted from the overall depth.

Oddly, by the end, I found myself yearning for more from Xie Zilu, despite his initial annoyance. The main couple's dynamic became monotonous, and I wished for a change. Despite my criticisms, I thoroughly enjoyed the escape from my more pressing responsibilities (like studying) while reading. This book provided temporary entertainment, but I fear it won't linger in my memory for long. At least it was enjoyable while it lasted.

Out of curiosity, I stumbled upon this book with no other reading options available. Initially, I was hesitant due to its average 4.0-star rating, thinking it might not measure up to other e-sports novels. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the engaging plot, which struck a perfect balance between emotional depth and competitive tension. Linlan's and the main character's character growth stood out, along with the additional content at the end.

Although it was initially a bit confusing, I assure you that the story improves as it progresses. Personally, I found it quite entertaining, especially with the protagonist's overpowered nature. However, I couldn't help feeling a little sad when the original mid-laner (I can't recall his name) left the team to follow his heart, even though he was struggling at the time. Sigh.

Aside from that, I actually preferred the MC staying in the parallel world; I believe it was the better choice. Initially, I didn't like the original main love interest (I think his name was Xie Zilu), but he redeemed himself later on, which softened my opinion. Overall, despite having some minor issues, I genuinely enjoyed the read and would recommend it based on my personal experience. 😅

I would rate this book 4 stars, despite some areas that could have been executed more effectively in terms of storytelling. The concept of the genre crossover was intriguing, although its implementation could have been polished. The transition from mystery to e-sports elements was a bit abrupt, and the balance between the two genres felt uneven at times. The e-sports aspect did拖沓 toward the end.

Nonetheless, I found most of the story enjoyable, particularly due to the OP (Overpowered Protagonist) character's skills and the satisfying plot twists. The character development was commendable, showcasing how the protagonist's past experiences transformed him into a vastly different individual from his parallel world counterpart. He recognizes his potential for growth and improvement, even amidst his extraordinary abilities.

The supporting cast was diverse and engaging, with each member's background adding depth to the narrative. Watching them evolve alongside the main story was a pleasure. The romance, though not the primary focus, was unique and well-developed, providing an important element in the protagonist's self-discovery and growth.

In conclusion, this novel stands out among typical e-sports stories. It offers a fresh take and is worth a read for those seeking something different. I wholeheartedly recommend it.

This e-sports novel was quite entertaining, with an intriguing, almost suspenseful undertone to the overarching plot. I appreciated how the main character developed alongside the protagonist, and surprisingly, I didn't feel the urge to skip through the gaming parts, unlike what I often do with similar books (I admit, it's something I've done before). However, I did skip over the bonus content, as one might.

This is the esports-themed novel I particularly enjoyed following 'I Can Do It.' The main character has a bit of a Gary Stu (omnipotent protagonist) vibe, yet reading about his journey is incredibly fulfilling. It's definitely deserving of a solid 5-star rating. I also appreciated the parallel universe setting, which added an intriguing twist to the story. Overall, it's a highly recommended read.
