As my gaze fell upon a woman lying exposed and her face concealed by her hair, her anguished screams echoed around. The sight was harrowing. Approaching the injured girl, I gently lifted her hair away, revealing countless cuts on her face, with blood trickling from her lips. Dark circles beneath her eyes betrayed the swelling, and she whimpered in agony. "Hey, I'm here now," I whispered, trying to reassure her. "Don't worry, I won't let anything else happen to you." I draped my coat over her, intending to carry her, but Max intervened, placing a hand on my shoulder. "Remember what Ella said," he reminded me. "I need to get her to safety," I muttered, disregarding his comment. "This is a life I'm saving today, and maybe one day she'll change my path, but for now, I can't leave her like this." Max persisted, "But you should be cautious. Ella warned that this girl might bring destruction." Despite the concern, I stood firm. "I don't know what the future holds, but I can't turn my back on someone in such distress. If she's destined to be my downfall, so be it," I replied, lifting her into my arms. She wriggled, seeking comfort by burying her face in my chest. In my mind, my wolf, Dominic, growled softly, catching my attention. My eyes widened in disbelief – Richard's wife, the woman I had taken a life for, was my potential mate.
