What surprised me more than many other manga was the story. At first glance, it seems like just another tale centered around an amazing, all-virtuous sibling who achieves greatness. However, we soon realize that this so-called ALLY of JUSTICE exhibits very human, egotistical, or even mean behavior. Can you guess what happens next? A misunderstanding, of course—if you pay attention to the title. And in every single chapter, no less! But these are hilariously executed misunderstandings.
There isn't much I can say about the art style because whether or not you like it (let's face it, the cover speaks for itself), it's a matter of personal preference. The art is somewhat "old-style," but the characters are drawn with great care. I think the female lead, in particular, is depicted thoughtfully, considering her character.
The characters themselves are unique, each with their own distinct personality and quirks. Most of the story unfolds due to these small or large eccentricities. The characters are driven by desires that feel genuinely relatable, which is quite rare in comedy manga.
I didn't find many flaws with this manga. Overall, my advice is not to take it too seriously.
I'm really looking forward to finishing it, and I highly recommend this manga to anyone who enjoys situational comedies or "slice of life" stories. Seigi no Mikata is definitely going to become one of my favorite series to follow. Sorry for the short review, but the manga itself isn't very long. Go check it out—you won't regret it! ^^
Story: 6
Seigi no Mikata centers around a girl who has consistently been bullied and overshadowed by her unreasonably harsh yet fortunate sister. This sister is the epitome of perfection—always an exemplary student, attending a prestigious university, and holding a commendable job. However, she often engages in cruel acts for her own amusement or benefit. Strangely, these actions tend to have positive outcomes for those on the receiving end or those nearby, which continually earns her gifts and praise. While amusing initially, this premise eventually becomes tiresome. How plausible is it for someone to be THAT mean and still have THAT many good things result from their actions? Notice how I mentioned the main character and then completely disregarded her? The manga does the same. Her role is reduced to incessantly complaining about her sister's cruelty, obsessing over her romantic dilemmas, and striving to prove she isn't as unintelligent or awkward as her sister perceives her to be.
Art: 6
The art style reflects a 90s aesthetic, which isn't awful but also isn't exceptional. Personally, I'm not a huge fan of the 90s style, especially when incorporated into more contemporary works. Others might appreciate it differently. This is purely subjective.
Character: 6
Frankly, I didn't particularly like any of the characters. They were rather one-dimensional with no development. Who they were at the beginning remained unchanged until the end. The only somewhat redeeming figures were the sister, who occasionally provided laughs, and her husband, who wasn't nearly as irritating as the protagonist and made genuine efforts to adapt to living with his formidable wife.
Enjoyment: 6
While there were sporadic humorous moments, nothing substantial occurred. Years went by, lives progressed, but essentially, nothing happened. So little transpired that I drafted examples of events, only to delete them and write this instead because I felt guilty about potentially dashing people's hopes regarding this manga by revealing precisely how insignificant the occurrences were.
Overall:
I don't deeply regret reading this manga; it wasn't a complete waste of time. I wouldn't actively discourage someone from reading it, but I also wouldn't encourage someone considering it to proceed with enthusiasm.
