The novel can be likened to the experience of smelling something one knows is off-putting yet eerily familiar. While the concept stands out among other Chinese literature as fresh and innovative, it falls short in execution. The yandere theme, which is a major draw for some, is present, but many storylines are redundant and拖沓, with the protagonist often portrayed as oblivious. Character development is practically nonexistent, which is a significant disappointment. To reiterate, there's a lack of growth or progression for the characters.

If you're a die-hard fan of yandere stories, this novel might pique your interest. However, for those seeking well-rounded character arcs, it may fall flat.

Well, it's alright. I actually appreciate the concept and there are moments that are quite enjoyable to read, but there are a few drawbacks. First off, despite numerous chapters, the overall plot development feels lacking. Many fight scenes tend to drag on unnecessarily.

Additionally, I'm not particularly fond of the Trials aspect. The majority of the story so far revolves around the MC's growth in dream sequences, which contributes to their power increase, but the progression of the plot and character relationships is minimal. While there is some relationship development, it's mostly erased when they wake up, leaving only vague memories.

I do enjoy the MC's personality and the premise of avoiding love-related dangers while cross-dressing, which has a plausible explanation. However, around the midpoint of the third trial, the repetitive nature of the dream resets started to bore me, knowing that dozens of chapters would essentially be undone.

A minor point is that I sense the story is shifting its focus from the MC's combative approach to building a harmonious harem, which is quite different from the typical harem novel dynamics. This twist adds an intriguing element to the narrative.

In summary, while there are redeeming qualities, the repetitive nature of the Trials and the slow plot progression are causing me to lose interest.

Interesting story indeed, but for readers seeking a more serious narrative, I'd suggest exploring other options. "Starchild" isn't the right fit; the protagonist is relatable and avoids complex themes. The story features entertaining arcs and an "over-the-top" plot that sometimes verges on exaggeration, even with its unconventional element like cross-dressing (though it does offer a different perspective once you pass that part). In essence, the central theme revolves around the "stars" guiding Yun Xi towards understanding love for multiple partners and finding harmony in relationships, despite his inherent indecisiveness and loyalty to monogamy, inadvertently drawing affection from various characters and taking responsibility for their emotions.

Great, but it didn't quite meet my expectations. The novel is indeed commendable, but I had hoped for a more relaxed, slice-of-life narrative with maybe a touch of glamour, like a star figure. Instead, I found myself immersed in cultivation themes, which I enjoy, but it's not what I'm currently seeking. The writing and translation are solid, but it's not the right fit for my current reading mood. I'm considering stopping my review early, just wanted to clarify that others might form a different impression based on the summary alone. The tags are extensive; a concise summary would be helpful.

Please don't engage with this content. The author seems to struggle with pacing and constantly shifting genres, often making the narrative feel tedious. There's an issue with character development, as the protagonist's abilities and the world they inhabit are manipulated to serve the plot rather than allowing readers to genuinely invest in their journey. Predictable plot twists occur due to arbitrary changes in setting and character dynamics, which can be frustrating.

The MC has had multiple love interests, but it's unclear if any are truly significant. The book oscillates between different themes like gothic horror, science fiction, and medieval fantasy, rendering character growth meaningless. Despite the stars being portrayed as all-powerful, they are portrayed negatively and don't contribute positively to the MC's well-being. Instead, they create obstacles that harm the protagonist repetitively, almost leading to their demise multiple times.

Additionally, the MC's character arc includes cross-dressing and changes in physical appearance, which may not appeal to everyone. The overall narrative feels disjointed and lacks coherence, seemingly prolonged for its own sake. If you're looking for a confusing and inconsistent reading experience, this might pique your interest. However, for those seeking a well-structured story, it's best to avoid this book.

I comprehend the intention behind authors' efforts to captivate readers by hinting at hidden depths and leaving them wanting more. However, continuously piling up plot twists can become overwhelming and monotonous if not executed thoughtfully. The desire for suspense, a shocking revelation, or an exhilarating story is valid, but a half-hearted attempt can lead to boredom.

Additionally, I find the excessive use of gender bending or crossdressing in stories perplexing. Although I have no issue with LGBTQ+ representation, the constant portrayal of boys transforming into girls and receiving affection from female characters feels forced and unrealistic. As a reader seeking imaginative content, such scenarios strain my suspension of disbelief and ultimately detract from my enjoyment, especially when they seem to go on endlessly.

In conclusion, I've decided to distance myself from novels that overdo these elements. I believe in seeking stories that resonate with me more genuinely, and for now, that excludes narratives like these. It's time to move on.

The translation is of good quality, but the novel might not appeal to everyone. Initially, the concept, characters, and mysterious plot were intriguing. Despite that, as I progressed, the writing style became a drawback. The female characters' dialogues followed a typical shoujo manga style, which felt overly sentimental and repetitive, especially since the protagonist constantly attempted to seduce various girls. This excessive focus on romance detracted from the earlier engaging parts.

In chapter 120, where I stopped, the harem element had intensified, and the author couldn't resist describing the girls' infatuations with the protagonist, which became almost monotonous. Moreover, the main character's behavior towards women was quite loose and irresponsible, which seemed counterproductive to the story's premise.

The story started with the protagonist being hunted by his former girlfriends, powerful beings, and his identity was set to reveal when he turned 18. Initially, I believed he was a reluctant Starchild who couldn't commit. However, the narrative hinted at his attraction to seduction and control, thanks to an unfair advantage granted by the "cheat" system.

Additionally, the author occasionally inserted foot fetish and genderbending elements, which were brief and didn't significantly impact my reading experience. However, the genderbending subplot stretched over about 50 chapters, and while a one-time joke might have been amusing, its prolonged presence became a bit tiresome.

In conclusion, while the translation is commendable, the novel's content and pacing might not resonate with all readers due to its romantic excesses and some unconventional themes. I'll update this review if I decide to continue reading or if the option to edit is available.

I would rate the story a solid 5 out of 5 for its epic and refreshing take on the narrative. Instead of a typical protagonist seeking to become stronger or protect others, the plot revolves around the character needing to gain power to safeguard himself. The light-hearted tone adds to the overall satisfaction of reading this novel. Additionally, the comedic moments featuring the female characters are well-executed.

In terms of translation, it's competent, but the release schedule could be improved. Despite this minor setback, the story stands out as a unique genre offering, earning it a 5/5 from me.

What happened to this novel? It started off promising with an intriguing premise: a man pursued by girls from his past and present lives, leading a harem. However, recent developments have been nothing short of disappointing. The pacing has slowed down significantly, and the latest arc is an utter disaster. The last 40 chapters are devoted to a convoluted and forced storyline involving chess as a Deus Ex Machina device. It's baffling how anyone could find enjoyment in this final stretch. The first few arcs were excellent, but the illogical plot and excessive addition of harem members have turned the novel into a disappointing mess.

The narrative stands out as exceptional, deviating from the conventional themes of Chinese cultivation and Eastern fantasy literature. The characters are well-developed, and the plot keeps readers on their toes with unexpected twists. What makes it unique is the protagonist's relatability – he's not overly powerful, and his female leads are even stronger, defying typical Chinese protagonist stereotypes. The world-building is impressive.

However, the book is not without flaws. Periods of lengthy chapters feel like filler, as they incorporate unrelated short stories or excessively detailed subplots. The translation, while commendable, can be slow due to the concise chapter lengths, raising concerns about the pace of release.

Update: As of September 2020, caution is advised as chapter links have been redirected to suspicious or scam sites. I sincerely hope the translator returns to their original path, as it would be disappointing for this novel's translation to end abruptly.

Update (2024): The translation has now improved in speed, though the quality has slightly declined. Despite this, it remains readable, especially considering the extensive length of the series, making the compromise reasonable.

Sure, I understand your concern. It seems you're referring to a novel where there are instances of sexualizing minors, which you find inappropriate. In Chapter 1029, this issue had already occurred three times previously, and despite hoping it would improve, it didn't. You wished you had realized earlier that the content wasn't suitable.

As a spoiler, here's a brief overview of what led you to decide to stop reading: The main character experiences a series of events where they transform into a dragon due to an attack, and upon landing on a new world, they become an egg. A 14-year-old princess discovers them, intending to hatch them according to a book that suggests loving and undressing the egg for a process that implies sexual overtones, even describing climax-like sensations.

This is followed by a scene involving the princess's younger sister, who is only nine years old, finding them and the book. The author then describes the sister's appearance in a sexualized manner as she interacts with the egg, which you find extremely disturbing.

As a result, you've decided to remove this book from your reading list and focus on more positive content, expressing frustration with the situation.

It's disappointing how things started off well, but during his third attempt, he gained an upgrade that elevated him to a god-like status. However, the fusion between the trial realm and his home domain resulted in a significant loss of power. The narrative's structure is bewildering, and I now regret having read up to chapter 600.
