I am in chapter 230th. This novel's progress is like old gen cultivation stories. MC becomes a master, hid his identity and sooo. A copy- past.

Although it is an repetitive story, it is worth to give it a shot. It won't disappoint u.

Martial word, the legend of Futian, cursed immortality, outside of time, library of heaven, martial universe, Top tier providence secretly cultivation, and all my disciple are villains are better than this novel, IMO.

Most individuals are likely familiar with the 2005 Hollywood film "Dark Water," starring Jennifer Connelly. This was part of a wave of horror films, the most renowned being "The Ring," which originated in Japan, China, Korea, and other regions. These were remade due to their immense popularity among Asian audiences. Regrettably, while Hollywood may excel in special effects, the atmosphere in the original Eastern versions of these films is often more compelling and, at times, truly terrifying.  

However, "Dark Water" did not start as a movie or even a manga. Initially, the story titled "Dark Water" was one of several short stories published in 1996 by Suzuki Koji. Originally named "Floating Water," it was part of a collection called "From the Depths of Dark Water." The English translation, released in 2004, shortened the title to simply "Dark Water."  

The manga adaptation, launched in 2002, involved significant input from Suzuki himself. Collaborating with manga artist Uchiyama Ko (Meimu), they transformed Suzuki's original collection into an easier-to-digest format. Adapting written work into a visual medium often requires changes to plot development, setting, and characterizations to preserve the core narrative.  

As a result, the manga only includes four out of the seven short stories. While the essence of Suzuki's tales remains intact, each story has been altered, sometimes significantly. Like the original collection, the stories share only the common theme of water. The four tales—Dark Water (originally Floating Water), Island Cruise (originally Dream Cruise), Adrift, and Forest Beneath the Waves (originally Forest Under the Sea)—focus heavily on human behavior. Although some supernatural elements exist, Suzuki emphasizes the horrors of human actions over any paranormal presence.  

The transition from prose to manga is reasonably successful, despite the necessary changes. Key aspects of the original stories are maintained and sometimes enhanced by the visual format. However, adaptations often suffer from a certain "flatness," as imagined visuals are always more vivid than those seen—hence the adage, "the book is always better."  

The artwork throughout the manga is commendable, fitting the tone of each story. The heavy use of black tones, stark contrasts, strong lines, and swirling dark backgrounds intentionally evoke empathy from readers. While not groundbreaking, the art is skillfully crafted and effective.  

Characterization presents challenges. Discussing character depth might overlook the purpose of the work. Characters serve merely as tools for the narrative, and in this context, they function adequately. Each story features different characters who are decent within their respective tales, though many remain somewhat wooden. The focus isn't on how characters think or feel but on prompting readers to reflect on the events unfolding.  

Essentially, "Dark Water" comprises morality tales rather than mere short stories. These parables explore how thought processes can become distorted, regardless of cause. The message takes precedence, much like "The Good Samaritan," where the moral resonates more than the characters themselves.  

Will you enjoy this? I certainly did, appreciating the cathartic closure of each tale. Despite supernatural elements, "Dark Water" isn't purely a horror collection. Fans of the original stories or the movies should consider this adaptation. Those interested in psychological narratives will find value in its exploration of human behavior and distorted thinking.  

Overall, this is a solid adaptation (I've seen worse). Changes to settings, characters, and plot points don't detract from the original's essence. Unlike the film adaptations, which emphasized horror, the manga retains a human-centric focus.  

Issues with plot development, wooden characters, and the superiority of imagination aside, the collection succeeds as a cohesive unit. While individual tales are standard, together they effectively imbue water with mysterious, humbling, and occasionally frightening qualities.  

Now, all I need is another collection of one-shots that matches this quality without delving into cheesy shoujo high school romances. <p>
