A family inclined to kindness and charity would grace the descendants.
Thanks to one small act of kindness,
by providence she comes across a grateful friend;
Fortunate that her mother,
has done an unperceived good deed….

Men should rescue the distressed and aid the poor…
Who would have guessed that kindness in this world ultimately would be the road that one must choose, that proverbial fork in the road?

Clouds of rain float on eastern winds as new vines start to blossom.
Though drums of war roar too loudly and their brilliance has been lost,
a green grass carpet greets the sun by the break of morning.
Let us wait for the yellow leaves, a few gourds are harvested.

This story is not your typical "you look down on me so i kill your entire 18 generatiôns" you rarely see the mc fight. This storÿ is more about the political balance and scheming. The character development is the best thing in this novel. (It's TTNH level imo). The world building is 3.5 it gives you what you need to know: No more, No less. The start is slower than TTNH but quicker than ZTJ.
If you enjoy visualizing the novels you read this is good.
If you enjoy heavy actiôn then this isn't for you.
You should try it out either way tbh

I have read a lot of CN novel translations and have become jaded by the recurring tropes. This novel is a breath of fresh air with its easygoing vibe and slight undertone of mystery. Reading a chapter of this is a highlight of my day. So Translators and Editors keep up the EXCELLENT Work!
I was sad when the previous translators went MIA and was overjoyed when it was picked up. This story is one of the reasons I am grateful that Qidian started on the translating scene.

I've read until around 40 chapters in English and some raws,  but not on Qidian (look up on NU for previous tl).

    - Only 568 chapters, so it's considered extremely short to invest your precious time. Read it if you have spare time, like the premise, or already read every other novels.

    - Not a cultivation focused novel, more like political slice of life.

    - Slow paced, but intelligent story. And by intelligent, I mean, even antagonist have a proper background & course of actions, not just mindless brute.

    - It is a harem. Not just a harem because someone is peerless beauty capable of destroying nations, but because they have a good character & skillset.

First off, Joy Of Life is a novel. It has the pacing, characterization, and plotting of a novel. If you come in expecting the usual face-slapping webnovel trash, you'll be disappointed. No, lie down, grab a cup of tea, and properly savor this.

Characterization is where Joy of Life shines. The enemies feel like real people, with their own goals, values, and interests. Hell, some of 'em go on to become friends!

As for plotting and action, it's well done. Fight scenes feel tense, the protagonist gets his badass moments, and generally nothing feels too gunky and overdone.

If I have one complaint, it's that Joy of Life's protagonist--it's hard to pinpoint what he wants, really. Who is he? What are his goals? The emotional drive of the story, or at least the protagonist's contribution to it, can seem hollow sometimes.

In short, this story is a 5/5 by the standards of webnovels, but as a serious novel...it's good, but nowhere near great.

Surely one of the best in the novels currently being translated, I have always liked reading Mao Ni's work's, although it seems a little slow paced, but this is exactly the charm of the novel.
    Looking forward to future chapters
