So as someone who's only watched the anime, im wondering how tf their in japan and new york, since when did these motherfuckers learn time travel or can travel between worlds

He's very clearly not into anyone or at least isn't psychologically capable of being into anyone (right now). Dude has extreme hyper-vigilance and had it even without the AI bugging his brain. I had this theory before but its been like 20 chapters since I saw the evidence for it again here, in this chapter. I think he got hurt really bad as an orphan in this shitty dystopia and though hes done a lot to let his guard down clearly, like he's clearly growing as a person and/or the AI is grooming him to be more personable (to achieve her goals) that shit doesn't just go away. Either the author will keep picking at it like this or we'll get a really uncomfortable back story dump. Maybe I'm projecting but it seems pretty important especially since there is this kind of weird minor conflict with the AI desperately analyzing his psychology and adapting herself to it(the dream sequences) to achieve whatever it is she wants.
