    its an homage to visual novels (game) where the MC can choose which romantic interest they want to try and get together with, so say theres 5 romantic interests, thats 5 ''routes'' or lets say main routes, theres also the option that the MC does not get together with any of them or that we dont know who they end up with.

    the manga is set up so up until the end of the school festival, nariyuki hasnt chosen a route yet, and depending on whose hand he held at the end of the festival determined which route he would go on, if the term route is conhfusing you can always call it alternate timelines :)
