Let me just say, I feel like a teenage fangirl right now... and that's difficult to admit since I'm a guy.
This is how my reading experience progressed with this lovely story:
1. Okay.
2. I like where this is going.
3. Definitely enjoying this.
4. "Aww."
5. "Awwww, that was so cute."
6. ...Oh my god... is my door locked?
Seven compelling reasons to purchase Little Butterfly immediately:
1. In my opinion, excellent art is crucial in a manga, and the artwork in Little Butterfly is simply stunning! It's so impressive that it makes me envious; why can't I draw like that?
2. The characters are endearing and exceptionally well-developed, including even the parents and teachers. The majority of the manga centers around the boys' characters, which, honestly, is exactly where we want the focus to be!
3. Little Butterfly also strives for realism (as much as a yaoi manga can), and I couldn't rate it lower than 10/10 in any category.
4. This isn't merely shonen ai; there is some genuine smut in the second and third volumes of this manga!
5. The storyline encompasses three primary themes: school life, Nakahara's family life, and the boys' relationship. All three aspects are masterfully executed!
6. The plot unfolds at precisely the right pace. It never leaves you confused about what's happening, nor does it ever become dull.
7. It's yaoi. Need I say more?
Story: Initially, I assumed the plot would be a run-of-the-mill, overly sentimental narrative. To my delight, every twist and turn was crafted with exceptional creativity and originality.
Art: Given that this is a yaoi manga, I was surprised by the absence of explicit nudity. However, I appreciated this choice as it allowed readers to use their imagination during the more intimate scenes.
Characters: I was pleased that Kojima Yuki's character wasn't stereotypically flamboyant. Although he did serve as the slightly effeminate "uke" role, he wasn’t the only one with a feminine appearance. The other characters, including Atsushi Nakahara, also had an androgynous look, which added a charming uniqueness to the art style.
Enjoyment: Reading this manga was such an enjoyable experience that I found myself deeply engrossed in it. For an entire week, I spent half of my computer class each day gushing over Yuki and Atsushi’s relationship.
Overall: Little Butterfly is utterly adorable, and I can't help but wish there were more of it!
Story: This is a tale centered around youth, first love, and friendship. The plot is straightforward, yet the characters breathe new life into it with their unique dynamics.
Art: Takanaga's artwork is stunning. It possesses a distinctive flair that immediately identifies her as the artist. In this manga, her artistry remains as impressive as ever.
Characters: At first glance, the main characters might seem cliché: Kojima is cheerful, kind, and outgoing, whereas Nakahara is gloomy, silent, and reserved. However, they are far more complex than initial impressions suggest.
Kojima is someone who isn't afraid to express his feelings, enjoys helping others, and is incredibly diligent. Despite his innocence, he avoids being naive or foolish, unlike many characters of his type in BL manga.
Nakahara, burdened by a challenging family life, appears gloomy and reserved due to his fear of letting people in. Once he does open up, however, his caring nature becomes evident.
In my view, the character development is what truly elevates this title. You witness Nakahara gradually changing and becoming more open, while Kojima learns to overcome his insecurities and embrace love.
Enjoyment: I thoroughly enjoyed reading this manga. It stands out among the few exceptional titles in the BL genre, and I highly recommend it to anyone who appreciates BL stories.
