Inside the jungles of Vietnam, a courageous Special Ops unit is fighting the most infamous war of decades past—the Vietnam War. This bold account follows the brave exploits of Sergeant "Perky" Perkins and his unit...of rabbits! Join Rats, Perky, and Botaski as they fight against the cats of the Viet Cong. From the Tet Offensive to the My Canh bombing, watch these commando-style bunnies through an anthropomorphic lens as events unfold and violence erupts.
On-human cast of characters notwithstanding, this compelling and painstakingly-researched work places an emphasis on factualism to accurately portray the events of the Vietnam War. With a fresh perspective on one of history's greatest calamities, Apocalypse Meow is a daring new take on a conflict that won't soon be forgotten...especially after these young rabbits are done!

Cat Shit One was published in English as Apocalypse Meow by ADV Manga from July 13, 2004, to November 16, 2004.

In the same vein as the graphic novel Maus, Cat Shit One, also known as Apocalypse Meow, aims to narrate a significant historical moment through anthropomorphism. While Maus focused on the Holocaust, Cat Shit One is essentially a well-crafted documentary of the Vietnam War. If it weren't for the characters being humanoid animals, it could almost be too realistic and factual to be truly enjoyable, as seen in one of the side stories at the end of volume one involving actual humans.
10/10 The art is exceptional with effective use of screen tone and meticulous attention to detail in the backgrounds and war tools. The characters look like cute animals but are drawn in a very realistic manner. In fact, it has almost none of the typical manga features such as speed lines or exaggerated sweat drops.
9/10 The characters are your typical soldiers. They party with local women (who, in this case, are cats) and engage in shootouts with the enemy. What's intriguing is seeing which animal represents each country and the dry humor jokes about this throughout the story (like a local Vietnamese cat asking a G.I. Rabbit if he wanted a carrot).
All in all, an interesting and engaging read. 10/10
