888 follows the adventures of Hisago, Tsukumo, Shimeki, and Kobayashi-Kun, Shimeki's adorable dog. Together, these four operate a detective agency. Despite not having many clients regularly, they manage to keep their business afloat thanks to occasional financial support from Hisago's father. When they do receive cases, they tend to be significant but simple, like finding a lost pet. There is no graphic violence in this story, although there is a moment when Shimeki gets kidnapped by his ex-wife and is coerced into cooking dinner for her under threat. The narrative doesn't involve any mysterious deaths or thrilling high-speed chases. It’s just a light-hearted tale about a detective agency drifting along, taking on whatever cases come their way.
