Squirtle is a small, light-blue turtle-like Pokémon. It usually walks on its two short legs but can also run on all fours, as seen in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Squirtle has large, purplish or reddish eyes and a slightly hooked upper lip. Each of its hands and feet have three pointed digits. Its tail, which resembles that of a squirrel, curls inward at the end. After birth, Squirtle's body is covered by a tough shell that hardens over time. The top of the shell is brown, while the bottom is pale yellow, with a thick white ridge separating the two halves.
The shell serves multiple purposes for Squirtle. It can withdraw into it for protection or sleep. The shell's rounded shape helps reduce water resistance, allowing Squirtle to swim swiftly. This Pokémon can shoot highly accurate streams of foamy water from its mouth. While Squirtle is uncommon in the wild, it can be found near small ponds and lakes. According to the anime, Squirtle may also live on isolated islands alongside other members of its evolutionary line. Sharpedo is known to prey on Squirtle.
Evolution
Squirtle evolves into Wartortle, which further evolves into Blastoise.
