In the Manga
Zagine was a hired assassin who killed Train's parents. Since he was unaware that they had a child, he didn't plan to meet Train and thus gave him a chance to live. Train lived with Zagine, enduring strict and demanding training to survive. It was during this time that Train developed his signature traits: drinking milk and acquiring cat-like reflexes. After Zagine's death, Train was left to fend for himself. Zagine's last words to Train were that to survive in this world, he needed to be the best. This prompted Train to strive to become "the best."
In the Anime
The story follows the same path as in the manga, but with an additional twist. When Train reaches Eden, he is influenced by memories of Zagine and confronts a "ghost" of him. Despite this encounter, Train stands firm and refuses to let Zagine's words bring him down.
