himura yuu

A man is frequently seen at the Australian Otowa Church during the first series. He admits he isn't a Christian and is just "waiting for someone." It's later revealed that he is Chihiro's guardian, showing a strong protective nature towards her. He has a connection to an unknown female figure who appears frequently in the Japanese Otowa church, though this connection is not fully explained in the first series. Himura becomes a main character in the second EF series, where his backstory and relationship with the previously unknown woman are explored. He carries guilt over not being able to save his sister during an earthquake when they were young, which burdens him throughout much of his life. After the earthquake, he lives in an orphanage, where he first meets Yuuko (the unknown woman from the first EF series). Himura enjoys drawing but doesn't always admit it. As an adult, he is quiet and thoughtful, often withholding full details or being vague when questioned.
