Utilizing a unique skill, Yukito can manipulate his puppet without visible strings. This talent serves as both entertainment and a means to earn money, primarily for sustenance. One day, Yukito reaches a quaint seaside town. Intent on not lingering too long, he heads straight for the beach hoping to earn some quick cash. There, he encounters an unusual girl named Misuzu, who promptly invites him to her home for dinner. Despite his initial hesitation, Yukito accepts the invitation. Upon meeting Misuzu's mother Haruko and growing fond of them, Yukito decides to extend his stay. Yukito begins performing odd jobs for the local clinic after being noticed by the doctor while performing his puppet show outside. Here, he befriends Kano and Minagi. As he grows closer to them, he learns of their struggles, compelling him to remain and assist. After aiding Kano and Minagi, Yukito discovers Misuzu's ailment—a condition that causes her to cry uncontrollably when attempting to make friends. Realizing this, Yukito contemplates leaving, believing his absence might heal Misuzu. However, just before his departure, he recognizes his error and returns to help her. It is then that he uncovers the connection between himself and Misuzu to the past, identifying Misuzu as the reincarnation of the Winged Maiden. When Yukito finds Misuzu, she shares her last dream with him before falling asleep. Suddenly, Yukito vanishes in a burst of light, waking Misuzu, who appears to have improved. It is suggested that when Sora appears in the anime following Yukito's disappearance, Sora embodies or carries a fragment of Yukito's soul.
