When Yukito leaves and Misuzu's condition worsens, Haruko decides to officially adopt Misuzu, choosing to embrace their relationship rather than live in fear. However, when Misuzu's real father appears to take her away, Haruko is thrown into despair after finally allowing herself to hope for a family. After Misuzu rejects her father to stay with Haruko, Haruko begins to act more like a mother, spending more time with Misuzu. But due to Misuzu's condition, they are limited in what they can do. One day, when Misuzu asks if they can go to the beach, Haruko happily agrees; however, upon arriving, Misuzu dies in Haruko's arms, leaving her to grieve over what they could have done now that they were finally a proper family.
