Yomiko is a bespectacled substitute teacher and an introvert. A passionate bibliophile, she prefers to immerse herself in her books. She spends most of her income on books, and her apartment is stacked from floor to ceiling with them. She lives in Jinbōchō, a neighborhood in Chiyoda, Tokyo, famous for its numerous used bookstores.
Secretly, Yomiko works as a field agent for the British Library. Known as a Papermaster, she has the ability to manipulate paper to her will. She can make paper bulletproof or sharper than any sword. With enough paper, she can even create a giant flying paper airplane. Her only limitation is her imagination. Initially, she needs to be in physical contact with at least one piece of paper using her hands, teeth, or another body part to use her powers, but by the time of R.O.D the TV, she seems to control paper purely through mental focus.
Her code name for the British Library is "The Paper" (sometimes referred to as "Agent Paper" or "Miss Paper" in English dubs). She is the 19th person to serve in this role. Yomiko frequently undertakes dangerous missions assigned by her director, known simply as "Mr. Joker." Despite her social awkwardness and occasional clumsiness, which might not seem ideal for a secret agent, she can be quite effective with the right support. Paired with focused and skilled agents like American mercenary Drake Anderson, she demonstrates ninja-like reflexes and sharp combat skills. She is regarded as one of the Library's top agents.
