Ridley Wan is a Papermaster featured in the Read or Die Manga. He was Donny Nakajima's closest, and possibly only, friend before Yomiko Readman came into the picture.
In the 1980s, Ridley was bought by the British Library from Hong Kong, with no details provided about his life prior to this event. Similar to Donny Nakajima, Ridley was subjected to the "Special Education Approach Training" to activate his latent abilities. It was during this training that he met and befriended Donny.
The final test of their training pitted Ridley against Donny, though Ridley was unaware of his opponent's identity as they had only communicated through the wall separating their cells and had never seen each other face-to-face. Ridley emerged victorious because Donny chose not to deliver a fatal blow, which infuriated Ridley, who believed Donny was mocking him. It was only when Donny repeated a familiar quote and put on his glasses that Ridley realized who his opponent was.
