Unicorn Yato is the name of the Unicorn Saint who lived in the 18th Century. He was partnered with Pegasus Tenma within the Sanctuary, but their relationship was not harmonious. During the manga's first mission, he was supposedly defeated by Alone-Hades or one of his minions and was presumed dead by the other Saints. However, Yato somehow survived and encountered a dying Tenma. As he tried to carry Tenma away, a Lemurian girl named Yuzuriha appeared. Initially, Yato attacked her, mistaking her for an enemy. After talking, he realized she was an ally. Yuzuriha then teleported both of them to Jamir in Tibet. There, the Lemurian Master Hakurei repaired Yato's Cloth using Yuzuriha's blood. Following its repair, his Cloth resembled the one used by Pegasus Seiya in the Poseidon Saga. Yato admits that while he may not be as strong or significant as his partners, he considers it an honor to fight alongside them. His only displayed attack is the Unicorn Gallop, during which he delivers a powerful kick. Yato seems to have a crush on Sasha, as he often gets angry when Tenma mentions her, though the true nature of his feelings has not been fully revealed in the story. Additionally, he occasionally risks his life to assist Tenma; initially, just to prevent Sasha from being sad, but as the series progresses, he does so as Tenma's friend.
