He is an Italian orphan raised alongside Sasha and Tenma, who later become arch-enemies. He is considered the purest soul on Earth, believing that everyone has a good side and disapproves of violence, which is why Hades chose to reincarnate in his body. Initially, he rejects his fate as the God of the Underworld but is later convinced by Hypnos and sealed by Pandora's kiss. Before Tenma leaves for the Sanctuary, they make a promise: while Tenma tries to become a Saint of Athena, Alone must try to become a good artist so he can finish painting Tenma when they reunite. Over the next two years, his personality changes drastically after seeing everything he painted come to life only to die soon after. Convinced by Hypnos, he starts to believe that death is the ultimate salvation. To bring salvation to the entire world, Alone begins painting the Lost Canvas, a depiction of Earth from space, believing that upon its completion, the entire world will die. It has been implied that Alone is not yet fully possessed by Hades, as evidenced by his drawing of Tenma, Sasha, and himself in their childhood within the Lost Canvas. After seeing this, Pandora uses a seal given by Hypnos and Thanatos to isolate him dimensionally, hoping he will continue painting the Lost Canvas without distractions and remain out of reach from anyone from his past.
