Douko is one of the two survivors from the last generation of Athena Saints, alongside Aries Shion, who is a close friend. After the war, Douko was tasked with guarding the tower where Hades' Specters were sealed until the next Holy War. He resides at the Five Peaks in China with Shun-Rei, an orphan girl he took under his care. Douko is also the master of Dragon Shiryuu and Ouko, an anime-only character. To Shiryuu, Douko serves as a father figure, and Shiryuu frequently recalls his wise teachings when facing challenges in battle. Douko often acts as an adviser to the main characters and is a good friend of Aries Mu, Shion's disciple. In his youth, Douko was more lively and somewhat impulsive. After regaining his youthful form during the Hades arc, he retains aspects of his youthful behavior but is much more cautious and thoughtful, a result of his nearly three centuries of experience as a Saint.
