Arcanine is a quadrupedal, canine Pokémon with an orange coat adorned by jagged black stripes. It features diamond-shaped ears lined with beige interiors, black eyes, a round black nose, and two pointed teeth jutting from its upper jaw. Its head, snout, and chest are enveloped in shaggy beige fur, apart from two oval sections around each eye and ear. Long tufts of fur sprout behind its elbows and around its ankles. The underside is black, complemented by a billowing, beige tail bent at the middle. Each paw has three toes and a round, pink pad.
Arcanine embodies fierce bravery and loyalty. This Pokémon can cover 6,200 miles in a day with speed and grace that mirrors flight. During Generation II, Extreme Speed was its signature move. Arcanine has been celebrated for its beauty and swiftness; hearing its bark compels respect. The source of its power lies within a wild flame burning inside its body. Evolving through an Evolution stone, Arcanine is seldom found in the wild but prefers prairies. Pokémon Snap also depicts it residing in active volcanoes. In the anime, it's shown stashing food in its mane to feed its young back at its nest.
Forms
Arcanine possesses a regional variant: Hisuian Arcanine. Living amidst volcanic activity in Hisui, its appearance changes accordingly. Its body fur turns red-orange while its muzzle, mane, tail, eyebrows, and tufts of fur behind its elbows and around its ankles become gray, with light gray inner ears. These gray areas consist of igneous rock components. Its cheek mane, ankle fur, and tail form curls. Elbow fur resembles wings. A large horn emerges on its head center, with three small horns between its head and ears. Mane clumps curl at the back of its neck and form large rectangular clumps on the sides and bottom, marked with light red-orange patterns.
Hisuian Arcanine employs its fangs amid flames to bite foes. Despite its bulky look, it moves nimbly like a dancer, leading opponents on a merry chase while evading them simultaneously. It resides in coastal mountainsides. A special Hisuian Arcanine revered by the Hisui people descends from one of ten ancient Pokémon blessed by Arceus. It’s among the noble Pokémon living in Cobalt Coastlands, watched over by a Warden.
