Known as the most feared and powerful Toushi, she wields the nearly invincible Blue Dragon Crescent Blade and the legendary sword Kusanagi. She possesses overwhelming chi and believes her destiny is to die protecting Ryuubi. Many characters believe Ryomou will one day kill her. She is presumed to be an old friend of Kakouton and Kakuka. In the English adaptation, she shows interest in Koukin.
She sides with Sousou to protect Ryuubi from Kyosho's Toushi. When captured, she refuses release via the Gyokuji, choosing to remain a prisoner under her own will. Despite being handcuffed and beaten, she later breaks free, demonstrating her immense strength.
In the anime:
Her personality mirrors the manga version. In the first series, Kan'u appears in two episodes, fighting Ryomou and Hakufu (including Hakufu's dragon mode). Her over-confidence led to her arm being broken by Ryomou, but she managed to defeat Ryomou using only her legs and left arm, and later defeated Hakufu in dragon state. She was expected to win the Toushi tournament but unexpectedly forfeited after her fight against Hakufu.
In Ikki Tousen Dragon Destiny, Kan'u closely resembles her manga counterpart. She is pivotal as Ryuubi's protector and one of the strongest Toushi alive. Her invincibility is toned down for realism; she is less flirtatious, confident, and more insecure about her feelings for Ryuubi. She admits her love for Ryuubi to Koukin.
When siding with Sousou, Kan'u accepts a fight on his behalf, wearing a new dark costume symbolizing her defection. However, her loyalty to Ryuubi remains unwavering. She threatens to kill Sousou if he harms Ryuubi or Seito. Following Chou-un's advice, she stays away from Ryuubi to let her grow as Seito's leader. Kan'u returns at the Battle of Chibi to protect Ryuubi. At the series' end, she remains Ryuubi's guardian and close friend, even jokingly recommending Ryuubi read "Ikki Tousen," which is meant to be Romance of the Three Kingdoms.
In the third season, Kan'u comes to terms with her feelings for Ryuubi, fantasizing about intimate moments with her.
