Tenshinhan is a fictional character from the Dragon Ball manga series, created by Akira Toriyama. Initially trained by the Crane Hermit, who is the rival of the Turtle Hermit, Tenshinhan starts as an adversary to Son Goku but quickly becomes an ally after making peace. He is often seen with Chiaotzu, his training partner and best friend, with whom he can communicate telepathically. Tenshinhan possesses unique physical abilities, including growing extra arms from his back, splitting into four individuals, and having a third eye on his forehead. During his early years, he attended the ruthless Crane-Style School where he mastered powerful ki-based techniques like the Dodonpa, Kikoho, and Taiyo-Ken. He also learned deadly assassination techniques from Tao Pai Pai, the younger brother of the Crane Hermit. At the time of his introduction, Tenshinhan ranks among the most formidable warriors in the series, second only to Goku. Devoted to martial arts, reclusive, and disciplined, he is one of the strongest human fighters in the Dragon Ball universe. He frequently joins other characters in battling major threats to Earth, often courageously facing enemies far stronger than himself. Like several other early Dragon Ball characters, Tenshinhan was inspired by a character from the classic Chinese novel "Journey to the West." His distinctive third eye is derived from the Chinese deity Erlang Shen.
