Piccolo is a fictional character from the Dragon Ball metaseries. He is both the son and reincarnation of Demon King Piccolo, created to save himself from certain death at the hands of Son Goku. Like his father, he appears as a tall green humanoid with pointed ears; he is later revealed to be part of an alien race known as the Namekians.
Initially consumed by revenge against Goku, Piccolo aims to defeat and kill him during the 23rd Budokai Tenkaichi. After narrowly losing to Goku, Piccolo reluctantly forms an uneasy alliance with Goku and his friends to face newer, more dangerous threats such as the Saiyans and Freeza. Out of necessity, he also trains Goku's son, Son Gohan, forming a bond that deepens when he sacrifices himself to save Gohan from Nappa. Upon his resurrection, he fully joins Goku and the others in their battles against increasingly powerful villains.
Piccolo retains elements of ruthlessness and arrogance, but after fusing with Kami, all traces of evil and hate vanish, and he is reborn as a pure soul. Preferring solitude, Piccolo stands apart from others, speaking little unless it involves battle. He maintains a stoic and calm demeanor in everyday situations. Piccolo demonstrates intelligence, such as regenerating his arm after Cell drained it and deciding to kill Babidi to prevent Buu's awakening. His intellect is even recognized by Buu, who absorbs him for his sharp mind.
Piccolo's character development shows his transformation from a villain focused on revenge against Goku and world domination to becoming a better person capable of caring for others, like Gohan and Goku. He shows interest in his Namekian heritage and has a good rapport with children, having trained Gohan for a year, helped Goten and Trunks learn Fusion, and humorously rocking Pan to sleep in Fukkatsu no F. He also acts as a confidant for Dende, a younger Namekian tasked with watching over Earth, imparting wisdom gained from fusing with Kami.
